I wouldn't use the spyder paper looking filters if in the dirt. They aren’t paper, but look like it. I used the factory TLR filter, with outerwears on it, for about a year. I recently installed the OBR velocity stack and DT1 filter. It was recommended by OBR and DDM for superior dirt retention...

I assume they use something for lubrication, but their lockup is mechanical and adjustable without changing to thicker or thinner silicone fluid.

Sounds like you had a seizure from being tuned to lean. On 2 strokrs there are two ratios to deal with, oil mix ratio and air / fuel. No amount of oil will protect an engine with too lean of an air/fuel ratio / tune.
