18/57 baja gear combo?

this same concept is used with Traxxas and many other rcs that run multiple spur gears off of mulitple tooth pinions.

its all about tooth pitch, depth and mating enough of the tooth faces together to push and not cut or wear.

The HPI HD gears made to fit with the 57 seem to work well. I questioned the theory of keeping the same diameter & cutting the teeth differently to make them fit, but it does work. If you look at the gears they do have a strange appearance at first because of the different machining required to make them work.

Now look close at this 18t & the teeth look to be nearly straight out & not really angled like the other gears.

"I see" said the blind man (me).........it all makes sense.....but I think i'll stick with my Hostiles combo's.
 
I to used a 18/57 with a 29cc and it made a world of difference.
The gears a cheap so if you do chew one up it won;t cost much
to replace. I have even ran a Hostile 55th with a 18th HPI pinion
it was chewed up quick but boy did it move pretty good. Agian I say
it chewed it up quick but they are cheap to... so for the guys that
are drag racing it may be worth it. Only going a couple of hundred feet
at a time you can keep a real good eye on it.

Now I use 19/55 Hostile on a 27.2 full mod ONB motor.
