I just wanted to ask a question? I have just installed a 2 speed in my FG Baja, now what I wanted to know is? can you still hear it shift even with it being 4wd. The gears I'm using is 44/40 and the reason is because I'm going to be drag racing it. It's driving me crazy because no matter how loose I unscrew the set screw or tighten it I still can't hear it shift. I was told that it being 4wd I won't hear it shift because it's turning all 4 wheels, any suggestions?:scared:

You should still hear the engine pitch change when it shifts gear no matter what the drive train type.

the shift is quite prominent in my semi. I don't see 4wd making any difference.

mine just stopped shifting. check the pin that is hit to engage the 2 speed as they wear out. for mine it's the part that swings out is worn and not engaging as it has rounded off from use.

is first gear engaging fine? that has the one way gear that could be worn. and being on the layshaft, changing first gear changes the rpm ofthe layshaft so the shift point changes

Ok guys this is the update, I had the damn 2 speed wheel with the claw on backwards, and didn't even know it, what a butthead I am. LOL!

can one of you please answer my Q . Is it a drop in or some customization is a must ?

It depends on what you are looking to drop in.
I have done one on an evo 04 ( yes )
FG marder, Monster, (no)
My LB mega cross (yes)
So what are you looking to drop it in?

it is not a drop in, because you have to cut the layshaft because it is to long. If you don't cut it, it will rub against the belt drive.

I am glad you got it figured out Bknate. I am sorry I didn’t see your question here I did however see it on RCU and did reply. You did the same thing I did when I first installed my 2 speed, I couldn’t hear it shift either until I figured out I had the shifter in backwards.:D

TandT,
Like Bknate stated if you are referring to installing the 2 speed in into the FG 4wd cars you will need to modify the layshaft as it is too long. Here are some pics of what I did to make it fit my FG Baja Comp.

can you really tell a big speed difference with the two speed? Im worried about getting one because i don't have the equipment to cut it down or grind it out.

looks great

Does the upgrade come with steel gears ? What did you use to cut the layshaft ? would dreamel do ? Also what is the part number for the whole kid with metal gears ?
