Guys,

I got a FG 2 speed with a Monster Beetle model that I bought, it was not on the car and the guy said there was something wrong with it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, there is a one way bearing on this? (thats what I think is wrong with mine as one of the big gears spins on the shaft both ways)

Also, does anyone know where I can get the manual (or any info at all!) on this as I've really no clue how it works!!

One way barings work this way, it allows free spinning in 1 direction and prevent it in the other. So if you put your gears on the layshaft, the gear can free spin in 1 direction and will twist the layshat in the other, if this is not happening you have bad OWBearing.

The one way bearing is available in the gear carrier (or holder) where you mount your plastic gear on that carrier to fit on the layshaft.

Installing 2 speed is easy.

I prefer removing the engine to make it easier/accessable for the ring gear (or diff gear).

1- Unscrew the gear plate to release clutch bell.
2- Remove diff gear (small gear behind the brakes).
3- Remove the gear plate and brakes.
4- Now that you have the gear plate assembly, remove the spur gear and pinion.
5- Install new clutch bell (longer): make sure to put shim or washer behind 1st pinion next to the plate bearing. (which is 2nd gear). So second gear goes next to gear plate and you might need shims to space the gears or or not.
6- Install new 2 speed layshaft.
7- Install the small diff gear at the end of the layshaft after the brakes. Make sure it is alligned with the bigger diff gear.
8- Go back to the spur gears, there is 2 gear carriers with the 2 speed kit, one gear carrier has a small pin in the metalic back, this is for second gear (which goes first on the layshaft). 1st gear carrier has 2 small one way bearing.
9- After mounting spur gears to their gear holders, there is a small flat area on the layshaft where the 2nd gear is supposed to gear, that will be the area where "shifting mechanism" screw will sit, it is a small semi-circular part which 2 screws (one in the middle and one in one side) the center screw is used for mounting the part on the layshaft, the other screw controls the shifting point.
10- After mounting the above part, just slide 2nd gear first, and then 1st gear, put the screw to secure the gears. If the screw does not screw tight (because it rotates the layshaft) that is a good sight that one way bearing is working. You might need to hold the rear wheels to screw tight this screw.

11- screw the gear plate again to the engine and you are done.

Regards
