i took apart my t1000 2 speed as i was cleaning the truck.everything was fine, when i put the two speed back together the truck seemed to roll a little harder.why is that?i took it off for literally 10 min to clean..then right back on..the only thing i could think of was could the transmission clutch be on backwards somehow?or the pinion be on backwards?is that possible?or did the mesh get messed up in that little time?cannot figure out..thanks :(

I would check the mesh the mesh can get off any time you take the gears off it does not matter for how long when I first received my baja the mesh was off and hard to roll once I re aligned the gears no problem.

I like to remove the gears place a business card between the gears when I am replacing the gears back turn the gears slightly to were you have a light impression in the business card of the gears then tighten the screws back. The gears should be set right then also make sure you locktite the gear screws back in.

they seem like there too tight together..is there anyway to loosen the mesh a little?

if you can post a pic of how you have the gears back on, we might can see if theyre on right for ya, but if you cant even run a sheet of paper between them or the business card, its too tight. one other thing you can do to help is also loosen all mount bolts in affected areas. like the hanger bearing for layshaft bolts, maybe the upper brake parts bolts, once theyre loosened up, not taken out, just loosened, then try to reinstall spur and dbl pinion gears. by loosening up some other mounting bolts it might shift enough to get that tiny bit of spaceing for right gear mesh. then just retighten all bolts back down.

i had to do this once myself when i installed some upgrades in that area. and it worked.

+1 I was just going to suggest this next also loosing the bolts around the gears will allow some movement in the gears then leave the business card in place between the gears and tighten back up.

one thing that you should look at , is when you reassembled the 2 speed spurs ,did you get them all the way on the shaft? or did you use the mount screw to press on? that wil bind them up also, another thing did you remove the oneway bearing? if you did is it where it should be on the shaft also if its not mounted correctly it will offset the whole setup, you don't have alot to play with when it comes to adjusting or shifting the motor around once it bolted down thats it,
and one last thought make sure the tranny plate is positioned correctly on the bulk heads if thats off that will shift the spur plate and the whole setup will be offset

ummmm..as i further scratched my head i decided to "lets just try something"i installed the spurs and pinions WITHOUT the plate..guess what?all is well..rolls very smooth..i looked at the plate and it might have a slight bend on the pinion side..that was my problem right?well next question, where can i get just the km gear plate only?i have looked everywhere and all i find are the hpi ones and they don't have the holes on the left side for the cover screw..any ideas?THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR AWSOME INPUT AND HELP!!!!!!!!:w00t:

i got one from my former 2 speed, ill have to lay it flat and see if it's tweeked,
but even if it was bent, after you have put all the bolts in it should straighten out, by chance did you change the clutchbell holder? the alloy or plastic pc behind the spur plate mounted on the engine holding the clutchbell

But you said it was working right before you took it apart you said you was just cleaning it so it was bent before and working it should have still been working right when you put it back together.

sometimes those cross pins in the layshaft will fall out on ya when ya try to slap on the first spur gear, the first spur gear has the one way bearing in it, i found it was easier to set up the shaft so pin runs thru side ways, it wont fall out then. and working the spur gear on is easier to do. thing is you shouldnt of had to use bolt to drive gears back on shafts. they go one easily with just a lil hand pressure. its takin them off thats only tuff part. if it were me, i would take it all apart again, with the bolts loosened as i mentioned earlier, start assembly again, making sure things are seated right, and use that business card idea as well between spur and pinion gears, then once you got everything to liking tighten all bolts down and check the mesh.

a bent backplate, if bend is in a spot the mount bolts wont suck it down to flat, might be rubbing the back of gears, thats something to look for rub marks on backplate when gears are off.

i disassembled everything,again..low and behold my diff case was cracked and was making the layshaft crooked..i installed today the turtle quick diff and rear plate with the one piece brake..and just like butter the gears went on so very smooth..i went for a spin, runs better than new now.:w00t:

I myself have issues with my 2 speed clutch! I don't know if it is shifting or not, and if not shifting how do I go about making it shift. This is new to me my first Baja is an HPI 5B SS kit, and I have had it now over 3 years. I bought my King motors 5B about 2 months ago, and I haven't heard it shift yet! Do they make any differnet sounds as in pitch of the engine sound or can you actually hear it shift like it does in my Savage XL, because you can hear it shifting. If anybody has any sugestions all help would he helpful I'd really like to see how it runs on the second gear set. I ain't happy with just fast I like going BALISTIC or latin terms balls to the wall. That was the whole reason for buying my King Motors 5B.

Thanks in advance for any help given.
Dave

I have noticed on mine that the shift point is much more pronounced on smooth surfaces, when I run in the dirt I can tell when it's in 2nd but I can't hear it shift. If you skip to 1:25 or so of this video you can hear mine shifting. If it isn't shifting then the adjustment screws need to be backed out a bit to make it shift sooner.

there is a hole in the 2 speed clutch bell you spin it to align with one of 2 bolts in the clutch shoes you loosen it to make it shift up sooner or tighten to shift later, count your turns, then rotate bell to other shoe with the 2nd bolt and make same adjustment.
