i never had a clutch on a boat before i always set them up as a drect drive racer ... with my 14 yo son running my cat now it scares me that the prop is always at full speed ,, i want to add a cltch now to my cat

do i keep the fly wheel or dose the clutch act as the fly wheel ?

also were is the best deals for a good clutch for a 26 pum ?

Thanks :helpsmilie:

hello
as far as i know ur engine is the same design as my engine,in fact i think they are all the same its just whats bolted on to it and where.

i presume you have a prop shaft to drive the spinner at one side of the engine and flywheel at the other side.

u must forget about flywheel side of the engine and your shaft must be removed and clutch set up fitted to crank shaft at opposite side to flywheel.and in our 1/5th monsters/cars we use a clutch bell to drive the gear outside that,so for a boat you need that boat type clutch bell which you would then mount your shaft on to.

click this link,im sure this should help you out.

hope this helps my friend.

if your going to run a clutch you'll need to get a water pump because you can idle it without the pickups forcing water through your hwead the pump will do it at idles i run the oniel brothers clutchs they arent the absolte best out there but they work fine for my sport boating a guy on rcu has a marine specialtity clutch set-up for 75 ..nice clutch or check out jims rc boatdock i bet you'll be able to pickup something good there ..

I really do not think i need a water pump ... once started the boat dose not sit still long its running fast ,, and when when the run is over the fail safe works as a kill switch
:2guns:

my biggest worry is getting it the water with out the razer sharp prop cutting my son ,, i use props from .. prop works... they are so sharp i have cut my self just puting them on a boat :cool2:

you Will want a water pump. these motor get hot FAST without water flow in them. so if the boat is idleing with clutch not moving, then a water pump will keep the water moving and cooling the motor.

it may be a trick. the PUM motors are put together pretty funky. I will suggest you go to JBD (JimsBoatDock.com) and check around there. those are some sharp guys and should be able to point you in the right direction.

fwiw, it may be good time to go over the ins and outs, with your boy, of the safty concerns you have with the boat as is. you may find its a real trick to work a clutch onto that setup.
