Ok folks I got another TS case in so I took some pics so you guys can see how it fits. No mods required and it clears the center diff by enough where I can get my fat finger in between. The only issue you will have is that The Baja air filter sticks up a little bit through the buggy window. I'm going to end up running the shorty Uni filter with the Shorty TGN Redneck prefilter.

I'm porting the head right now so I couldn't get any pics. It requires me to fill the intake port with Devcon so that I can window port the piston to flow into the 5th and 6th transfer ports which are located where the old intake used to be. This is where the TS get it's power from. Also take a look at the crank porting. You can see the extra channeling that flows the mixture up into the cylinder.

Here's something just as a FYI. BZM gets it's power the same way be eliminating the intake port and adding extra xfer ports. They just went all the way and made a new cylinder which didn't have the old intake port which you have to fill in.

P.S. Pics were taken with the new Evo phone which has an 8mp camera. Pretty dam good for a phone camera. I like it much better than the wife's Iphone 4G.

DDM has the reed cases for $324ish. I buy stock topends marine kits for $59 and reed port them myself. ESP or ONB have reed ported topends for $225 ready to bolt on.

It would be nice to sell TS cases but he makes very few each batch. I'd hate to sell stuff that always hard to get a hold of.

I got this 27.2 reed in tonight and it's has as much bottom end as my ONB 30.5 reed motor. The difference is I went with a 5 port like ESP does instead of the 6 port from my ONB motor. Big difference.I had a long talk with Doug at ESP on reed porting. He had me cut the wall out between the 5th and 6th xfer port on the crankcase to create a large 5th port. I ended up taking advantage of the large port by matching it to my top end and then narrowing out the port into a deep 10mm port straight up through the intake port. You can see from the pics how deep you can take it up to about 4mm past the intake. This 5th port is fed from crankcase pressure just like the regular xfer port and also through a window in the piston which rides in line with the 5th xfer port. Here's some preliminary pics of the port work. I had the 5th port roughed out along with my eyebrows. The only thing I did which is not shown in the pics is retexture the xfer and clean up the 5th port. Also, you can see how the complete engine and HPI filter sit in the car. I'll get some video this weekend.

Holy mother of god this engine was fast. I say "WAS" cause I lean seized it 20 minutes into my breakin run. I made the mistake of breaking it in on the track with 4 of my buddies. I couldn't resist nailing the throttle. It had soooo much power and was so much fun. This motor made my ONB 30.5 Full Mod look like a stock engine.

My other problem was my HSN was at stock 1 3/8 which was way too lean for this motor. I really needed to be at 1 1/2 or 1 5/8. Oh well, it's my first reed port and I already have a backup ready to roll.

I've gotten a few runs in on a fresh ESP 30.5 topend for my TS engine and the results are surprising. I borrowed some large 5T tires from a buddy and threw them on. The engine didn't even flinch running those large heavy tires. This is on a belt drive ratio that is equivelent to 35/25/25/25 gears. I know the car is gonna be fast but I didn't dare push it untill another tank or two. From the short bursts I did I can see it's gonna be stupid fast. The bottom end is still incredible. I need to gear up some more to the equivelent of 37/23/25/25 to keep it from spinning out.

Anyways, I figured I'd share this for anybody that's been wondering how a TS handles in a light car like the XB. I really do not see the need to ever run a motor like a 46cc or a Skopod.

That's a sweet looking setup, TS does top notch stuff. Do you have any experience with the OBR bolt on reed's? My friend just got his 28.5 OBR reed ported head + bolt on reed installed and besides the low end bog removal his old race ported head (28.5 also) seemed to rev much higher and go better. I saw the inside of the cylinder and piston before he installed it, two small boost ports + tiny window on the piston and the intake and exhaust were actually smaller on the reed head. Needless to say he was not impressed at all.

I have no experience with reed's but is that the trade off with them? Loss of RPM but better low end response?

I don't have any experience with the bolt on reeds from ONB. The only thing I've seen on them is what I have read from other guys on the other forums. Nobody seems to be really impressed with the power they generate.

TS reed engines are a totally different topic. You can install a stock topend on them and instantly see the power just from the optimized crankcase porting. When you get a topend that's reed ported it adds a 5th or 5th and 6th port depending who did the porting for you. The extra ports where the old intake port used to be greatly increase power. I'm sure this has alot to do with optimized engine scavenging from the extra ports, better fuel delivery, etc. I talk to Doug @ ESP every once in a while and he can explain it better than I can. All I can really tell you is that the engine is VERY responsive. It's instant power at the twitch of your finger.

From what I've experienced, the top end is not going to be as fast as a piston ported engine of the same CC. I already knew that long ago from talking to other TS owners. For instance, my ONB Full Mod 27.2, ESP Championship 27.2, and DS marine 26cc setup would scream like Banshees. In a light car like the XB you can really fly while not totally bogging your bottom end. What the TS reed motor allows you to do is run taller gears that a piston port can't push. don't' get me wrong about lower RPMS. Ya you might be able to see a difference on a tachometer but the engine still screams. The bottom line is my car has much more bottom end power and a higher top speed from taller gearing.

I'll try to get some video up this weekend. I haven't been able to because I can't drive and hold the camera at the same time.

After a few more tanks the engine has started to get a little better but still does not have the mid-high punch that the race ported head had. Low end is much improved though, running a 668 carb and there is no bog whatsoever... just instant throttle response.

I see what you are saying about getting the extra power and gearing up, makes sense. Thanks for explaining how it works. Just as a test we installed the OBR bolt on reed to my DS CY 26 marine setup. Sure enough the low end bog was completely gone and the engine was much more responsive but it hurt the high end RPM (don't have a tach but you could tell the difference from the sound).

Do you know of any other porting my friend could do to help get the RPM back with the reed setup? Time to bust out the dremel ...

im currently weighing up 2 engine options in preparation for the belt drive and 2speed

im not necceraly looking for the most powerful motor, but im looking for the "wiser" choice of the two.

my choices are the "27.2cc TS Reed" or "OBR 7hp Full Mod Zenoah 4 Bolt 30.5cc +3mm LONG ROD"

im suaded more towards the reed engine purly because my expereince with reeds on my cr125 crosser, but i havnt a clue with 1/5th scale engines, ive only ever had my stock engine so ive nothing to compair :)

how do you think the ts reed will compair to the Obr 7hp monster?

I can't comment on a 31.5cc 3mm stroked engine from ONB but I can say I'd take my TS/ESP 30.5 over the regular ONB 30.5 full mod any day of the week. My partner runs two TS/ONB reeds. One is a 27 and the other is a 30.5. The ESP outperforms them both hands down. If you could see the inside of the heads side-by-side you can immediatly see why.

hy daemon rc, it might sound silly but what tires are that (in the picture) ? i have an xb also and i want to replace my worn out tires with nice new ones....thx alot !!!

Those are the Elcon tires for the HPI 5B. Nutech and EngageRC sell similar tires with the stock hex. You need the Ramtech Rampage > HPI adapters to run the Elcons. I gave the Elcons up in favor of Proline Bowties.
