I would say yes I have 1 on my FG Baja and FG Leopard and it was well worth it in my opinion.

I will be selling my FG Leopard since I purchased my Elcon Cleon and removed the 2 speed from it. If you are ok with a used one I can sell you one at a good price. Send me a PM.

Thanks,
Alex

i would also say yes, i've one on my fg baja also and wouldn't trade it for anything, best of both worlds...bottom end acceleration and top end speed and with all the different ratios you can compensate and set up for all the various tire sizes.
2 speed is worth every penny and some

The only time you will here no is if someone had a real bad time setting it up. After its dialed in I hear its a blast. If you are more on the off road side save up and get the alloy gears unless you want to stay plastic then get a few extra.

The other thing that can be done is a motor upgrade that may allow you to do a full gear change and raise the RPM's without the loss of bottom end.

Iv always been told its a good idea to keep the spur gear plastic, it acts as the weak link to the drive train?? Rather blow a spur gear than something internal! thought??

Lots of different thoughts have been said about that. I've run full metal since day one and every one else has also. In the rear diff area!:)
It's not going to be any different in the side drive gears.
I've ran in pea gravel sand and other small gravel areas and yet had any gear problems.
I did however take out two rotors from gravel getting stuck in the case and banging around until fins broke off. The screen mod on the hole openings is a must.
I have never heard of anyone loosing a motor from a rock in the gears - Yet.

I'm running the 2 speed with steel pinion and plastic spurs, no issues with alloy upper arms...before that would chew 1st gear within a tank cos of the rear arms flexing into the spur. ran a steel spur for a while but changed to a 48 from a 46 and couldn't get a steel 48 so went plastic...also i prefer to run plastic spur for a weak link and reciprocating weight it saves over steel.

there has been an alloy one on ebay every now and again..limited numbers i guess, i don't have the room between my spurs and arms/driveshaft to run a cover..i reckon you'd need to run the 44 or even 42 and lower to have the room for it to clear..

No offense taken.:) I found the cover really did nothing more for protecting the gears and in some ways was a pain in the butt to remove to get at the gears.
If you run plastic gears and you spin one out you have to take the gear plate bolts off to get your spare spur or pinion changed then re-locktight them in and wait for it to dry then run it again. Just a PITA.
I switched to all steel gearing the 1st couple of months and never needed to change out a gear again.
With the type of cover you need to run with the MT and other FG and clones it has way too many openings to keep rocks out so, if a rock gets in it smacks around and can't get out.:)

I had a clear cover on my mt and i cut the bottum out incase a rock popped in, the top and outside of the gears are covered to keep junk from going in between the gears.Thats what happened to the first spur gear, had junk get in between the gears and killed the spur.

I would invest in metal gears if I had a 2 speed or any speed.
I am thinking of a 2 speed for my MT. Translation: How do you tell your wife you "need" a two speed with all the other stuff you "need"?:clown:
