is it possible to lock out the front diff to run a 2 wheel drive truck?

Just remove the front drive shaft.

Remember that will place the full load of the motor onto the rear and makes it easier to break something. Those are heavy trucks. You also will loose front brakes.

should i remove the dog bones to the front wheels also or just the front drive shaft?

lose the front axles. I had a CVD go bad (almost same as a dog bone) and ran 2WD for a few weeks and loved it! so much more power because of the less friction but breaking was bad. On a smaller track 2WD would be for the win. I run on a few tracks with mine and 4WD is getting the best of me and I want to make it 2WD again just for fun. I didnt break a thing but then again there heavy and are made to run 4WD not 2WD.

I've ran my MT without 4WD, as well. Acceleration was awesome. I didn't break anything, either. But then again, I am running a beefed up drivetrain.

I have sleeved and tempered diff cups, and some really beefy MCD dogbones.

ive run just RWD, and FWD before, no problems with either setup (with stock drivetrain)

i tend to remove the driveshaft from the center diff aswell as the cvd's (less rotating mass, and you might aswell save wear on bearings)

bare inmind, as the others said you putting the full load on the rear wheels, so youll wear the rear drivetrain out twice as fast, and break bits tht bit easyer.

ive noticed the increased wear on my Cvd joints from running 2wd, but i havnt broken anything

ohh and yeh, the braking goes to hell if you run Rwd, Fwd isnt to bad

yea i noticed what i burn out a diff cup in the rear its goes right to FWD and it tends to make the front tires spin alot and make the truck hop.

I run RWD with 10k silicone in the diff with a TS reed case, custom ported 30.5cc stuffed stroker with CPI pipe, and this thing is a beast even with the MT tires. From a dead stop on pavement, it will light the tires up instantly, and hang the back end out. I think I'm going to get some baja wheels with hostile MX 5B tires in the rear, and 5B bowties in the front. Probably going to stud the MX's too. Waiting on the belt drive system until more gearing options are available.
