3rd channel on stock radio?

I see that there is a 3rd channel port in the receiver and a 3rd channel adjustment knob on the transmitter, but is there any way to actually control the 3rd channel? If not, then what is the 3rd channel for?

The stock radio is a 2ch. It uses the same receiver as the 3ch unit.
