just completed my 4WD conversion on my MT now my question is this is it normal for the drivetrain to be little knotchy? also is there a break in process on this?

Hi you say a bit Knotchy do you mean a little bit stiffer than the normal single diff it sounds to me to be the same as mine i thought the same checked it all out couldnt find anything wrong so took it for a bash and still going strong i was told on here that the plastic belt gear wheels do tend to come lose or wear down quick but Ive put 5 to 6 tanks threw it up to now and still going ok and there's no break in that i know of so give it a BASH
The key to prolonging your plastic or alloy parts is clean it every time you give it a bash or you will be asking for trouble if you don't and chekcall nuts and screws

How's the 4WD going?
Just had a 'blast' with Hyperpete and Pablo, but got tired of doing impromptu donuts everywhere!!
The 4WD kit is a major consideration, but not just yet - $$$$$ :(:(
Icing on the cake, when I went ballistic, then did about 15 somersaults!!
Truck's (nearly) OK. Had to replace a couple of stripped bolts on the cage with longer ones - into the replaced rear alloy cage!
Major victim was the basic steering servo. It would have been a Rhino if it wasn't for the fact the Rhino's smaller!!

Now I've no excuse to make a proper installation - and tone it down a little!!

4wd

now love the truck doesn't spin off the line better traction and handles better as well a great bonus now that we are getting snow here in Canada just have to water proof my electronics and off i play in the winter wonderland

I've got a 'still very shiny' as in alloy nearly everything 2WD FG MT.
I'm trying to figure out which parts need to be replaced, which can be used ... it's not very clear in the instructions for 4WD kit. It just seems to indicate what a FG MT 4WD looks like.

Can anyone definitively identify which parts are replaced please?
Thanks,
Alan.

4wd

with all the spare parts its almost builkding another MT actually i think i am gunna build with the parts i have left over from the conversion :-)

i was gonna get the 2wd and add a 4wd kit later but when i thought about it i wanted 4wd from the get. So i'm just savin the money. Since you cant use the large alloy mount what can u use?

Didn't think I'd say this, or expect to say this so soon, but it looks like the guys at FG were VERY short-sighted !! :nono:
It would have been a perfect opportunity to make the parts interchangeable, or at least a lot moreso than they are, thus open up a huge market to fellow 2WD sufferers as myself in wet or slippery weather!!

I'm goign to persevere with my 'compromised' 2WD for now. :(

4wd

i get you i know exactly what your trying to say i should have bought a 4WD MT the first place but then again the reward of putting it together is very rewarding effort

they provide you with plastic big mount but i up to alloy mount right away after both my plastic mounts went bad

Now you need to stud the wheels and you're set. 5thscale is going to be placing an order from DDM next week. I'm going to get 1 or 2 sets for some of my special tires.:ph34r:

Yes, If you have FG MT tires they are very hard. I've done this to them as well as old Marder tires. I have a set of KCR/MCD style tractor tires I'll be studding very soon.

For 2wd models you can stud the center of the front tirs to give you better steering as well.
