right lads im after some help please,

my 4x4 beetle had an issue where the front diff housing tensioner pully got hot and melted the plastic housing around the bearing and messed the housing up.

so ive just bought the alloy front and rear diff housings to stop this happening again. along with alloy tensioner pully new bearings etc.

now when i have built the 4x4 system back up again there is some sort of binding and tight spots when i try and spin it. i have checked the diffs and pullys and all spin great. but soon as i bolt it all back to the chassis it binds again???????????

don't know what else to do:mad:

could be one of many things, i noticed this happeneing to mine, and on my occasion the bearing next to the outdrives were really gritty, cleaned them up and it was free again.

for it to be binding only when you bolt it back to the chassis is suggesting something is rubbing on the chassis. strip it back down again, check the bearing agains and bolt it back up again. when you say binding how tight is it? keep in being a belt driven 4wd system its never going to spin freely, mine never has but ive had no issues.

there's just so many things that could be causing this its impossible to tell you what prob is straight up but hope this gives you some direction to head in at least.

cheers mate,

ive stripped it down to have another look. and on the gears aroung the outside of diff there is dirt in bottom of teeth pitch which has built up in spots and baked solid and black. this i didnt spot at first cause it is black and solid. so the belt was sitting ontop of this in certain spots causing tight spots as it rode over dirt. i have scrapped all dirt out and belt seems a lot better under rotation now :)

its fine now daz. just having a mare with the shocks. fiddlesticking shite to say least. don't no what to try next??

:(
