Just a few more things to button up. Led wiring, soldering a qs8 on to the esc and cable managing the servo power and esc wires.

The battery tray and esc mount will be reprinted in some sort of cf or nylon reinforced materials. Still haven't found any decent and fitting battery straps either. I have another 5t with my old electronics I'd like to get running but finding another TLR brushless motor mount has proved to be difficult.

Looking good. What's the thought process behind keeping the brakes on an electric when you've got a center spool?

It's a nice to have. In case anything goes wrong I can hit the mechanical brakes. Although I'd rather have 1 brake on each wheel like on some on road cars, I can't find any compatible parts.

Can't fault that logic, dealing with a lot of energy after all. Could provide some ability to tune in brake bias too if you went back to a center diff later on

Those wires look too thin on the connector. The mechanical brakes are a must not to overheat the motor and blow up the ESC from the EMF. Just a heads up it would save you money.

I race mine on off-road tracks around the east coast. I only use motor brakes. No issues yet going on two seasons with multiple podiums. 8 to 10min qualifiers and mains

Must be low gearing for short course racing to gain enough mechanical advantage over the weight of the car.

8s 16-18/58. 10000 mah zeee packs

What kv motor and what's the running temperature?
On 12s 650kv motor 18/58 gearing when it's 95f outside the motor is at 145deg. There just isn't room for the heat generated by brakes. The amps are at 147.
I can see on 8s the less rpm/motor load so more room for heat. Loading up the ESC but it goes to 250 so there's room.
I guess there is a tradeoff, loading the ESC more and unloading the motor. Top speed not being the priority for your set up.
