Got a used 5T the other day for my nephew...going over the kit to tighten, clean, repair, upgrade, etc...got kind of a shock when I pulled the gear cover. The spur gear has worn a substantial groove into the gear plate. The spur gear has even bitten into the bell carrier a little bit, wearing down the back side of the teeth.

There's supposed to be a small spacer behind the spur gear thar keeps the gear from rubbing on gear plate. On my hpi baja the spacer is purple.uheza6ej.webpu7upujut.webp

I lost mine once upon a time during a rebuild and used the inside of a bad bearing. Just have to see if you have any oversized bearings laying around you can tear apart.

Thanks for all the replies, I have to say, maybe I'm just too meticulous, but the previous owner of this 5T was less than stellar at maintenance and apparently keeping parts...I have spent almost $65 just replacing things that were missing. Not to mention new carb, new clutch, new tires, new bearings, new brakes (full), etc, etc.
I feel the bond growing with my new baby only to have her stripped away tomorrow and most likely subjected to further abuse at the hands of my 12 yo nephew. I have to admit, I'm probably a little sleep deprived at this point since it's almost 4 in the morning here, and I just now came in from working on it...

Wait until you stay out that 'five minutes too long' and the 'evil grin' starts, you go for 'that jump considered too far', and .... it was and SMASH ....
There's a strange mix of emotions, which normally ends with ''ah, well, let's make it faster and I'll nail it next time" !!
Al.

Well, not very happy about the outcome today...mother makes the 2 hour drive to see her grand kids and pick up the 5T...she wants to see the 5T and hear how loud it is (I ended up putting a box muffler on it)...she takes one look at it says "holy cow, I didn't realize it was that big". Sees it run just around the driveway real quick and says "it's way too fast for Justice".
All I can think now is "my wife is going to kill me".
As lucky as I can get, Bryanlt35 says he'll take her off my hands...huge sigh of relief.
The wife and I are in the process of buying a house right now, and the reluctant "greenlight" she gave me to buy it was based on the facts that it wasn't for me, and the money would be back in our hands in a few days...it's not often your own mother leaves you high and dry!!
