Have notice as i am researching before buying a losi 5ive T that you can get the rtr version with either type of electrics is this a gimmick or is 6 volt being phased out and 7.4 thge new standered?

Don't forget 6.6V - LiFe.
Agreed, in the last 3 years more and more are going across to Li-powered, and mainly LiPo (7.4V).
I run a 4200 mAh Vapextech LiFe 20C in my FG MT - works fine.

One thing to consider is that some of the better servos need 7.4v for peak performance. They will work with 6v but put out more torque with the 7.4. My HS-7980TH puts out 500oz @ 6v and 611 @ 7.4v
