Hi, Im not soliciting for money or anything like that.

Im in NH and have a freind in Northern NJ that recently bought a used 5B and a load of parts, and ended up biting off way more than he can handle. Has plenty of RC expeirience....but the mechanical aspects of the Baja has him compleatly overwhelmed.

Their from the Washington area of Northern New Jersey, and Im trying to locate a good hobby shop that he can go to that may support the Baja's. Or may just have helpful staff that might be able to offer help. This person has some minor learning issues...basically cant follow written instructions. But is very intelligent and absorbs knowledge like a sponge when its hands on type learning.

Ive already sent him quite a number of links to youtube vids, which work sort of okay for him. Because of the reading and comprehension problems...he does not do forums at all. He has spent a fortune on used, where he should have asked first and bought a brand new SS kit or RTR for the money spent on a basket case ebay deals.

So sorry so long. I realy want to help him, but just not familiar with his location. And to far away for me to help first hand. So looking for good LHS in Northern New Jersey area. Can be Pa. OR NYC areas also.

Any insight would be greatly appriciated.

What s the problem he is having? I am in central jersey (Matawan) and if he needs help he can give me a call and I can try and walk him through it. PM me with his #.

Tell him to sign up on here and he can ask question & post pics of any problems he is having. Even if he finds it difficult to follow written instructions its a good community to be part of and he will get there eventually.

I would imagine he would get better help through a dedicated forum such as this rather than a LHS. No need for personal details. We could even do step by step photographic how to's to help his understanding of his 5th scale, Im sure loads would offer their time to help a like minded member of the 5th scale community.

+1 Local hobby shop may be a hit or miss. There are the hobby shops with the you didn't buy it from us but now you want my help attitude!!!!! Then there are the shops that just have employee and that don't really run 5th scales so they may actually have no clue whats going themselves. There are great hobby shops out there with great customers service and more but it can be hit or miss.

Yeah its a bit of a difficult situation for him. I understand completly about the nature of "hit or miss" LHS. Ive been doing RC off and on since 1986 and been in a few good stores, and many many realy bad ones myself. He would be devistated if he went into a shop were they blew him off or didnt help just because he didnt buy from them in the first place...he dosnet understand that concept.

The hobby buisness being such a niche buisness already, and on top of that a buisness thats high effected by the economy and feeds on peoples descretionary spending habits. Hobbies are generally the first thing to put on hold when the economies tight like it is at the moment. And on top of that , just because you can start a buisness, dosnet make you a good buisnessman/lady.

But anyway, my friend is having trouble with the carb. He has the manual and is slowly absorbing the carb expanded veiw blow up on page 85. I also linked him the YT video Rodney Ketcham did on the Phatdad site, pertaining to carb taredown and rebuild. So since I started this thread, he's getting there little by little own his own. Ive got @ 4 hours of phone time with him, walking him through it and seems to be sinking in.
