Hello, my name is Trip and I am officially addicted to Large Scale R/C's. I didn't realize it until today, this is why...

It was a beautiful day, to do beautiful things, with my beautiful truck...

I went out in search of the perfect spot to have some fun. Still a little snow here and there, but mostly snowbanks caused by the plows...

After driving about 15 miles, I found it!! A nice dirt/mud parking lot with a huge 1 acre grass field next to it. In between the two areas, there was a small hill about waist high with a small snow bank pushed up to it. Perfect double jump!! On the other side of the grass field was a huge drop-off to another dirt parking area. A drop off, of about 12-15 feet at about a 60 degree angle.

Lots and lots of fun!! I ran about a gallon of fuel today, without a problem (other than I need more gear, the GP290 has no rpm's! As a side note: I will be picking up a ported Zen 26 next, I miss the rpm's!)

Round and round I went, through the field, over the drop-off and over the jumps... I started to draw a small crowd of watchers, so I got a little more reckless and hit the drop-off at full speed! This is the first time this truck has been more than 2 feet off the ground unless I was picking it up by hand!!! (I don't jump this truck at all)
...What a sight, this thing flew like an arrow and landed smooth like it was landing in a tub of whipped cream!! I was a little nervous at first, but I grew more aggressive the more I played! I had no idea this truck would jump like this!!!

All in all, the day went off without a hitch... Other than a bunch of grass sticking out of the cracks in the body (looked like the Scarecrow from the Wizard of OZ) and a stuck front wheel (I will check into the problem when the truck dries out, I believe it is a stuck caliper) ...I will never go back to Nitro and all the problems associated with it. Tank after tank nothing went wrong, it ran like a dream and the motor is just barley broken in!!

My passion for this hobby/sport is back!! With a Vengeance!!

When I got home today, I took the Savage off my R/C shelf and literally THREW it in the closet, I will never go back. The only reason I kept this $2,000 truck, was for jumping and beating the hell out of. ...Anybody want to buy a savage? The only stock parts are the front and rear bumpers! lol...

The only thing I can say is, I love my FG!!

I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it!

That Aboy Trip..glad you had a great time..I am almost as excited as you are...But can't control it from my house....
and I am an old coot...Once I get out man ...that gasser is heaven....Well you can always resort to using the savage if the FG is waiting for parts....If it were me i would sell it...
I am going to try and sell my nitro or have my son sell it..I told him if he got 500 dollars for it
he could take the money and use to buy a HPI Baja...great run my friend....Slawhammer

Thanks Slaw, but I think I will probably just keep the Savage, with hopes it may some day become a collectors item...

I fixed my front wheel, it was a very small stone in the return spring for the caliper!! It took 45 seconds to fix!! That's what I love about these, they never break!!

I thought the GP290 would rev pretty well as it's still a stock stroke Trip, are you saying that it was noticeably lower revving than your previous engine?

Yup... Unfortunately for me, it just doesn't have the same top end revs... Other than the top end, it is about the same as the stock 26... I thought it was more "Torquey" on the bottom end, but after watching some old home movies, it is about the same down low...

On the top end, it just doesn't seem to clear it's throat and open up... If that makes any sense??!

The carb is a little on the rich side but, not anymore than I ran the stock motor...

Weird as this is though... The spark plug is just as clean as it was when it was in the box, bright colored and has no carbon, or white!!! Hell, There's no damn color at all... It is bright gold colored!?? Does that make sense? It doesn't to me, I was trying to tune to plug color, but the plug looks as if I just pulled it from the box!!! I am on my second gallon of fuel, 25:1 first and 32:1 on this gallon... Maybe it is the Klotz R/C oil I run??

I guess, if you want higher revs, go with a smaller cc, like a 23... If you are looking for a big boost in power look elsewhere, because the GP290 w/stuffed crank is about the same as stock.

I will say though, the stock Zen with a Jet-Pro was an uncontrollable wheelie machine, but with this motor, it is far more controllable. But it doesn't make a difference whether you are at 3/4 or full throttle, there is NO difference... (Yes my carb and servo are set up correctly) It just never wakes up and stretches it's legs... It almost sounds like it is governed!

As cool as it is, It just wasn't quite what I had hoped for...

Trip... the g260 race ported this the way to go...
You may have to go richer for your brown colour...
what you running668 carb? switch to 813 your engine will wake up then...
I like the rear DDM Dom my self...Slawhammer

As far as the race ported 26... I am thinking that too, but I am thinking about an ESP version... The DDM pipe... I think I'll pass on that one, the Jet-pro I have is an amazing pipe, but even though it is silenced, it is still to damn loud!! I am thinking about the RN fat ass, or the TGN... The 813, you mentioned may be a good idea though... I need to do more research on it...

Trip..Yeah I am also thinking the g260 race port..only from o'neil brothers..
But the 771 is the same as 813...only difference is the 771 has no accl pump..
larger jets internal and better fuel flow.....My next carb will be the 771...
Just some info for ya.....Slawhammer
