Hi all
In one of my controllers I have to use the 8 AA battery's and when I'm charging them I'm always leaving them on too long or too short charging them and I never have a clue exactly how much charge is in them
I'm ruining them and getting fresh ones every few months
I've a IMAX b6 here and I'm wondering can I use it to charge AA battery's nimh
Question is ! What's the best way to charge them ?
I want to know exactly when they have reached full capacity !
And be able to cycle them ! Do I need a battery holder like the square ones that take four battery's , the sort of holder people use for servos ? Can I charge battery's whith one of them ? Will my IMAX charge them ?
Cheers all !

don't charge them insitu, Just melted the battery tray of my transmitter when the charger overheated the AA's using the TX input jack.
fortunately didnt damage the TX but had to convert to battery pack as the spring terminals melted into thetray and body...damn it.
Fortunately the B6 did detect the problem and prevented even more serious problems...I guess

What amperage were you charging them at? I wouldn't do more than 2 amps. One amp would be better. With a Delta Peak set at about 10mv.

Reading several other sites they seriously recommend NOT charging above 1A for AA rechargables.
Anyone tried NiZn AA batteries?
Normal Duracell Procells give just over 1.6V, but they state these give 1.8V fully charged. 1.6V nominal voltage.
Anyone know if the Spektrum DX3.0 can take 14.4V? !!

yep learners mistake, think I got greedy, in a hurry and charged them at 2 amps. no long term harm done to controller, dremmelled out the tray and soldered in lead connection for battery pack.
Not sure what I have done to the rechargeables, however they were on their last legs only holding charge for a day or two.

lent my old trusty stupid charger to my nephews and bought a super duper one and learnt I have no idea what Im doing.

This happened to me. A cell went down, overheated & caused damage to the battery compartment. Fortunately the set was fine but now I ALWAYS remove cells from the set to charge.

I use Energiser are they are decent cells so you will be ok with them.

Killer Rc

Eneloops are the best. Get the white and blue ones. Yes you can charge them with a RC style charger. You just need a battery tray with a futaba plug. Something like this http://www.amazon.com/Cell-Battery-Holder-Futaba-Connector/dp/B002I9V60E/ref=pd_sim_t_3

Set the charger on NiMh and then let it do its thing.

Aww yea mate I was thinking I could use one of these on my IMAX the square receiver pack that takes four aa battery's at a time with the futaba connector ! Just I like to use my IMAX for everything ! I hate having loads of chargers about the house it's just stupid when u can have one that does it all ! Thanks mate

Cheers mate I got them energiser x6 2300 mah youy get 12 for around £15 + postage on eBay pre - charged I like to look after my cells but up to now aa have been my only problem , hopefully now I can cycle them and keep them in Good order with my IMAX !
Cheers mate !
Love your beetle I'm gonna try and get one !

Thanks dogg!! It started out as a £200 shed marder which I fully rebuilt, changed to a bug with a fibreglass shell and later added a 4wd kit. Its great, love it!! You could easily add a fibreglass bug shell to change your pajero or spyder for not much money, shells can be had for £30ish.

dog im using a imax b6 and charge the aa batts with that in the square batt holder that comes with most handsets not had any problems mine are 2000mah energizer aa's i just shove them on 2amps and job done plus running a speky dx3s i only need to do 4 batts

Sorry to here what happened mate ! But good to know if I'm using my IMAX to charge my AA s il do a 1a charge on them , I'm gonna go with the square receiver type holder with the futaba plug , I know il be only able to charge 4 a t a time but at least il know its all good :)
Cheers mate !

Sounds good mate I have the energiser 2300 x6 battery's and ive 8 of them to use on my controller "x6 means 6times longer I think" but as they are a great battery il try the 1a charge as atom recommended just to be sure lol I know you have the same charger as me tho so maybe the energisers will accept a 2a charge no probs as your doing it and it works fine ! :)
Cheers very much mate

Hi mate haven't heard of the nizn AA battery's but il look em up as I love to get decent AA s but I was looking at the AA li-lon battery's they are high powered for digital cameras and report 10 times more photos & flashes than ordinary rechargable AA s so they must be good il check it out !
Cheers mate !

I spoke to 'John' of Horizon Hobby UK, who said as follows:
1. Hadn't heard of them.
2. 14.4V (8 x 1.8V) is pushing it a bit close, and probably best NOT.
3. 1.2V NiMH generally give up to 1.4V+ and perform reasonably well without problem - better use a GOOD QUALITY NiMH - Sanyo, Duracell, Ever Ready ...
4. Not heard of range being affected by low voltage, until the Tx cuts at 9V.
5. Range typically 'up to 2 footy pitches' - I would err a bit less, but certainly more than 100m with both of mine.

NiZn batteries sound like they would be good fun for some of my son's RC's!!!!!!!
I think I'll give them a try for that, and perhaps ..... don't know, I might have a go in the DX3.0, but possibly not with the FG MT at 40mph!!!

When asked, John also replied that he WOULDN'T consider using 3S LiPo for the Tx either.
Normal / S = 3.7V. 3 x 3.7 = 11.1V.
Charged / S = 4.2V. 3 x 4.2 = 12.6V (same as I get with 8x Duracell Procells).

Haha yea there are a few mini Rc cars out there that I recon would be good fun too put them into mate ! Would be great results I think ! I used to have a vintage turbo hopper from taiyto that took AA battery's I will have to look for that I hope it wasn't left behind in my last house moove because I haven't seen that model in 7 years ! Hopefully it's in a box in the roof space !
Great info mate !
I think il stick to the nimh energisers they are a good battery and if I can charge them with my IMAX il be a happy chappy lol
Cheers mate
