Hi Guys I'm having a little problem just got and rcmk from gizmo and I'm not being able to tune it I get a grey plug color I richen it and keep getting grey color so I went looking for an air leak took air filter out and blew on the the carb air comes out from needles so I had a brand new carb and samething happened is that normal or am I missing something here any help is greatly appreciated
 
i notice the same thing with all the walbro carbs. much more so in the summers dust bowl conditions. this is why i think that the device used by the boat guys to lock down the needles is not such a good idea- the added weight on the ends of the needles would have to hog out the female threads on the carb body. Al has an idea though! Firstly do not try this with silicone sealant or any other junk like that. Next time you go to the mighty home Depot - or an automotive parts store, look at the air fittings. the ones sold in a blister pack. These -and other parts- some self bleeder screws for the wheels cyclinders have a bit of red stuff on the threads- on the automotive self bleeder screws- they can be loosened tightened repeatly with no issues of this sealer coming off the threads. I know this would be the trick- cats ass to seal up the needles. I cannot seem the find anyone who knows a part # OR product brand to buy this stuff- been over the lok-tite site- and others- no cigar.
 
Oh, if a anyone ever does find this stuff- post it up!! When -if this stuff is applied, be certan to clean the needle well with solvent. Then apply to just a few threads on the screwdriver end of the adjustment screws- just to be safe.- little bit of oil on the carb body female carb body threads will help the red sealer to not gall -ravel up on the carb body.
 
I don't quite understand everything you said but I did think about putting some type of fluid on the needles I was thinking about getting the mod 990 with bearings on the throttle shaft thinking that that's what the air leak was but got some soapy water and around the needles was were the bubbles showed up
 
Alfred is basically stating that someone makes a thread sealer that won't lock the threads.

Not sure how to buy the product.

Ok then I did understand what he said I'm glad to know the carbs have this problem, actually not glad cause this sucks anyways like I said my rcmk engine when I check the plug only gives me a grey plug and the only leak I found was the needles which sucks but it is good to know I don't have a defective carb
 
You should not have a grey plug. I have the Gizmo full mod RCMK with a 990. I never had any tuning problems.

You definitely have a lean issue.
 
From what I am reading the red stuff on the fittings is just a mass produced thread sealant with no brand name implied! The guy I know had no idea what it was, but with all the experience I have in the automotive field I have used many different products and for what you are trying to do my vote would be for liquid Teflon, resists gas, does not get hard and seals very well I use it on a lot of different applications, just put a little on the threads let it set-up a while then see how it acts............

I got some tread sealant at autozone haven't use it but I'll look into that liquid Teflon
