Hello all,

Decided to paint by first body. Anyone know of a good airbrush brand they recommend? I know harbor freight has a few, was thinking of going there. They have one brand called Black Widow and another called Avanti. Are these any good or are there other ones you recommend?

Also, where can I get paint to fill the airbrushes with that are okay to spray on RC bodies? It seems as if hobby shops only have spray can paints but haven't seen the liquid ones to fill airbrush containers with.

over here in the uk iwata airbrushes are the way to go fella, not sure on there acvailability in the us though,
also hobbynox paints are the best lexan airbrush paints i've ever used, its water based but once it cures it sticks as well as any solvent based aerosol paint there is (y), plus the hobbynox paints can be mixed infinitly to make your own custom colours,

I see some available on Amazon here. They are expensive compared to the other ones! But they do look like very good quality ones

What do you think of Proline paints?

yeh the iwata airbrushes are a higher quality fella, well worth the bit extra in my own opinion though (y) ,
much more control than a cheaper one, i'm no expert at painting by any means , but the better the airbrush the better the and easier the work is,

i've never tried proline paints before, but should be fine as long as its lexan type paint,
heres a bit of a tip as well, get yourself some old coke/pepsi 2Lclear plastic bottles. remove the labels, clean and cut in half for paint practice,
the lexan paint sticks really well to em and its much better practicing on scrap than on a new body (y)(y)

Thanks for the tips!

yeh i just mean paint thats suitable for lexan/polycarbonate fella, that says for rc bodies so yeh thats the right stuff (y) ,
if you get that proline paint get a bottle of water based reducer as well to clean the airbrush out between colours or after spraying,
it says ready to spray on the link you posted so shake to mix well and spray without having to reduce the paint, same as the hobbynox stuff i use (y),

Painting is my 2nd least favorite thing to do in RC. My opinion is just that, mine. Unless you plan to get into airbrushing even for a side income, stick to rattle cans. Airbrushing equipment is not a Harbor Freight or Nail Salon bundle item. Too frustrating with terrible results. I worked all the way up to a Paasche Single trigger until i tried my dads Iwata Dual. There is a lot of supporting equipment that goes into airbrushing from the compressor, to nozzles, vials, cups, filters hoses blah blah. You have to airbrush a lot to get good and i mean a lot. Like an RC car it aint cheap and adds up fast. If you have to paint 10 bodies a year, rattle cans are still a better choice IMO. 1/5 scale bodies are almost too big to airbrush but can be done by a professional i am sure.

Best advice is find a seasoned airbush painter and learn from them.

Thanks for recommending the Iwata airbrushes. I ended up getting an Iwata Eclipse Takumi airbrush with a No Name compressor from Spray Gunner. Can't wait to use it and see how it runs
