Hi, I Recently Got A New Alloy Adjustible Diff And Alloy Diff Mounts And Raisers. Upon Install Everything Seemed Ok Until I Got Everything Tightened Down The Gearwheel Would Not Even Turn! I Checked All Allignments Seemed Ok. So Frustrated I Took It All Back Out And Installed The Original Back Because I Was Going To Have A Nice Day To Run It! Any Help Would Be Greatly Appreciated!

1. What's the alignment like against the diff and the hole in the chassis below it?
2. Is the diff gear fitted the correct way?
3. Have you got the correct diff mounts part no?

Any pictures of the parts?

adjustable diffs need to be put together very precise inside with all the shims and wahers and everthing else,if its not right it simply wont turn.

i would suggest looking up an exploded view online.

check simple things llike
1/as ducky said did you put gear on right way?

2/the underneath diff guard(small plastic or alloy to protect diff gear underneath chassis) 3 screws. check to make sure you put the right screws on this diff guard,i did put the wrong screw on this once and it locked against the diff stopping it from turning completly. stupid mistake but happens.

3/check diff mounts and bearings.

4/check obvious things like layshaft and pinion gear and see how every thing is mating up.

i would think its assembled incorrectly.

By Shim It With Card Do You Mean Stick Cardin Between Teeth When Installing? And The Bottom Axle Mount Does Not Seem To Line Up With Chassis Holes Real Perfect.

Do I Put Together The Diff Completly Inside Mount First Then Install In Chassis Or Install Lower Halfs Of Diff Mount Then Diff, Then Diff Mount Tops Halfs?

On the card thing, yes put a card between your gears and force the engine toward the diff gear. This will squish the card and you will get a good space between the two.

On the mounts, what kind are they? I have not heard of a two piece.:helpsmilie:

I would think you would install the bottoms, install the diff with bearings then the tops. Make sure they are on the right way. Left on left and right on right.

Hmm....sounds strange. I installed my alloy adjustable diff (8485/1) last week and it went without any problems whatsoever. Have you seen the assembly instructions for this diff, otherwise you have it here:

http://www.fg-modellsport-gmbh.de/_PDF-ANLEITUNGEN/A.08485-05.pdf

I really can`t see what causing the problem since it seems impossible to assemble the diff in that way so that the gearwheel will get stuck  Maybe it has to do with the raisers you are using that might cause an strange angle or too tight fit for the gearwheel to the diffgear (as Big and the Better aswell). I don`t use these myself so I really don`t know what they look like.

Have you seen so that the gears inside the diff lines upp exactly with the holes in the diffhousing? Does the vertical axle (8490) fit without any problems? This could otherwise casue the gear to get stuck and not move.

As someone else said post pictures of your assembly because this makes it much easier to understand what have gone wrong.

I have the KPD two piece alloy diff mounts, and yes install the bottom halves, put the diff in and check nothing binds, then install the top half and clamp down on the bearings.

waqr did you use the raisers on your install because that s the only way i could install mine because the diff case has t6hat raised middle and when you use tha raisers the layshaft brace is that much higher where you screw into the top of the large motor mount.

whats your engine, and engine mounts, are they the correct parts?

i suspect wrong parts on somewhere,i would go over and check them all, maybe wrong diff mounts, gear, layshaft pinion....

actually have you the correct layshaft pinion on there?

and i would also check and see if your enginemount steel brackets that hold engine to large mount if they get slightly bent they will cause layshaft to be off......

also are you sure that the brakes are not sticking?
and finally when you had the diff ready to put in the car you should have checked it in our hand before instaling, put a dog bone shaft in either end and they should turn inner gears at both sides smoothly.....

least you could eliminate the diff assembly then and move on

I don`t need the raisers since I have this diff protector installed:

4q3kp4.webp

xfwva.webp

How is it going? Have you solved the problem yet?

I made a couple of 5mm raisers and dremeled about 1mm beneath the centre ring, the 10mm fg raisers are way too high for off road, I found my ball drives bound at full droop.
You can just see them in the pic
