Hi, i bought a hummer brand new a couple of months ago because ive always wanted one and i thought they were quite reliable but that don't seem to be the case! Everytime i take it out i seem to get a new problem, i have bournt 2 throttle/brake servos out cause they got slightly wet, i had a starting problem after about 2 days of purchase, then today i had it running for about 5 mins and the steering servo locked up, thought it was a stone got jamed but oh no that would of been to simple to fix, eveytime i turn the power on the servo turns to the right and locks up can anyone help? They say 45 mins of running time well ive been on the same tank since i bought it. Anyone else get lots of problems or am i unlucky?!!

I think you're just unlucky, servos can go wrong in any car, it doesn't have to be an FG. :)

Where are you based?

You need to water proof your electronics if you are going to get them wet! You need to wrap everything in balloons or condoms, yes I said condoms! 2 Trojan magnums (1 inside the other) are are about perfect for the 1/4 scale steering servo. Seal the open end with a small zip tie (around the servo leads). Do the same with your receiver and throttle servo, but use a "Normal" sized jimmy and try to find the non-lubed version.

Gotta be safe if yer gonna get wet! lol

Trip..

i know there not supposed to get to wet so i exspect that a bit but the steering pissed me off abit cause ive only used the car a couple of times for about 5 mins! I live near cambridge!

Shame you're not a little closer, could have had a butchers for you. What steering servo are you using?

I think if your throttle brake servo got wet, your steering servo got wet.
What type of servos are you using?
Have you torn down the servo to see if there is moisture inside?
If a servo glitches due to moisture - IMMEDIATELY - cut power and dry or tear it down.
It is just like your cell phone. Get them wet and not a problem. Get them wet and give them power and "pop".

:)

Matt ,look at my post "multiplex disaster"on this forum under Monster trucks and a pound to a penny if its a Multiplex this is what has happened.Give us a shout if you need to know a fix on the problem.

the servos are just the standard Futaba stuff that come with the car, i bought it RTR hoping i would be able to have a decent run!! The steering servo hasnt got wet cause it was dry yesterday, i burnt the throttle/brake servo a few weeks back. i know that your gonna get things wear and break that your gonna need to replace them i just didnt expect problems from day 1!

The outside casing may be dry but if you got the throttle wet the steering is right next to it, I would pop the casing off and check the internals just to be safe.

Yeah I know, just bad luck you got a hitch the first time out!

Which Futaba steering servo is it? RTR anything comes, most of the time, with the cheapest electronics to make the model affordable out of the box.
I thought FG used the 805BB for steering in the RTR? They are plastic geared and snap easy.:(

How did you get your throttle/brake servo wet without getting your steering servo wet?

Hi Ducky, ive stripped my servo and i think its had it, cause as soon as i turn the transmitter on it the little motor just constantly runs and doesn't do any thing when i try and turn so its electrical! do you know if i would be able to plug a hitec 5745mg straight into my futaba reciever (R153F) because they are metal geared and waterproof arn't they?

I just burnt out a ACE 1015, it is waterproof too, but I have been bashing in the snow, and what happens is the servo is warm goes into the snow cools off you bring it in nad condensation forms on the inside of the servo, on the bottom where all the brains are. And "POOF" the smoke gets out.

The servo motor will continuously run if it cannot find its endpoints. If you have removed the gears from the motor then it will be allowed to free run and the elect board will be trying to find the endpoint. When you reassemble your servo make sure the vertical stop is pointed out toward the case and centered. Then when the servo goes one way or another it will find its endpoint and stop by spinning the board shaft.
What make and model of servo are you using?
If you are using servos that cannot handle 6V it will burn out eventually.
If you stripped out the gears its cheaper to upgrade to the 5745 anyhow.

Specs for the R153F:
R153F Receiver;
Power Requirement: 4.8V or 6V (shared with servos)
Length: 1.5" (37.7mm)
Width: 1" (25.4mm)
Height: .6" (14.3mm)
Weight: .50oz (14.1g)

If you connect the 5745MG to your R153F it should be able to receive the full 6V to it.:)

Update your location and others will be able to get you some places for inexpensive upgrades.

The 5745 is NOT water proof, I just smoked mine in the snow... And yes it will plug directly into your Futaba rec...
Here is a link to a great servo site...
