Has anyone else had oxidisation of ally engine components? This engine was new and only fitted this time last year so should still be like new IMO but its quite clearly showing signs of oxidisation. Obviously from the pic its a CY if that makes a difference?

you cant post pics like that mate trebor will spit his teeth out lol,,we all know he don't do dull alloy

iv'e never seen anything like it :lol::lol:

K....

I will have to take it round to Keith's for a polish :D Second thoughts I will post it or he might give me a clip round the ear for letting it get in such a state :p

Have you driven in areas where road salt is used to melt the snow? Or driving on a sea shore? Salt will do that to aluminium.

WD40 prevents that from happening. Steel brush will take that away but will not look like new anymore.

No I haven't had it out in anything other than damp grass in the fields so well away from any road salt. I will clean it up before I put it in the kids 2wd.

Caustic cleaning products will also do that to cast alloy.

Draino / oven cleaners etc.

No I haven't stored it in the oven either :lol::lol::lol:
