Like the title says! I know with nitro if you are a bit of a basher, aluminum parts (specially arms) is a big NO NO!

1- How about when it comes to 5th scale?

2- I know RPM parts are stronger than stock parts, but considering that the parts are beefier than their 1/10th scale counterparts, can you rely on aluminum as you would rely on RPM?

3- Or is aluminum even a better choice than stock plastics?

4- Is aluminum worth it when you plan on bashing a bit?

5- The KM KRSC-OO2TX offer Nylon parts. Are those comparable to RPM?

Thanks!

it depends dude, stock has some give/flex which is good for bashing but eventually it will break. My FG MB Pro was mostly stock & it took a good beating, there were some parts that i hopped up with ally from the word go as these were the weakestr points, such as hubs/shock towers & radio plate etc. But then i got the bug & now my MB Pro is pretty much all alloy, so far no probs & its holding up well, each to there own i guess :)

Aluminium for shelf Queens theirs no give or flex they bend and stay bent

Plastics tend to give and flex thats why their ideal for bashing

My choice in plastics to go for would be Rpm or hpi

Stay away from Km plastics ect in my opinion its cheap and junk

hmm i disagree, alloy aint just for shelf queens (unless thats your thing!) eg: the fg monster/marder etc, alloy hubs/rear upper a-arms & engine mounts, radio tray are pretty much a MUST upgrade if you bash hard, the stock plastic of these parts either flex too much or threads strip etc.

guess it depends which model you got, i got the FG MB Pro, pretty much all alloy, no probs as yet & i do bash pretty hard but crash harder ^^

Decent Quality/Grade alloy will take more abuse than stock plastics before it bends, but again this depends on the quality of the alloy.

The downside to alloy is if/when it does bend then you prob going to need a new part, on my FG it takes ALOT more force to bend alloy than it does to snap a plastic part & i know this from experiance as i was always braking stock parts & FG stock plastic is pretty good quality, but now with alloy parts, no bends as yet.

Upto now ive not had 1 piece bend, yet when my MB was all stock, i would brake a few parts such as lower/upper rear arms/hubs & this was a good few years back, since then ive bashed alot harder but my aloy is holding up nicely, ive recently upgraded most of my alloy to elcon alloy which afaik is the best out there for the FG.

to be honest the only part i never upgraded to alloy until recently was the front upper&lower arms as these what take the most impact, but i got a good deal on a new set so went for it & so far (touch wood!) been fine :)

tizdaz, the opening post is about a HPI baja clone.

If he had an FG MT I would agree with what you wrote but in this case I'm saying go with the plastic.

Thats all well and good but i don't own an off road fg so i cant comment !

Iv had more than enough experience with Hpi Baja to know what works best
