So what is it that changes the rpm of the clutch..is it the pads or the spring. I have 2 trucks. And at 40 bucks a pop for clutch's, I'd rather buy 2 springs for 10 bucks if the spring is what makes the magic

It is just the spring. The higher rpm clutches just have a stiffer spring. It won't let the clutch engage until a higher RPM. Some guys buy the whole clutch just out of convenience.

Re: anatomy of the clutch..

Clutch springs are super easy with some Muscle and 2 vise grips. Get the spring on and then use the vices to get flat and then remove one of the vices and put your weight on it and snap its all locked in place. But ya it is more convenient to just buy the clutch but the spring does the magic and there quite cheap. The Hpi 8k springs, the cheapest place I found is gizmomotors. If you haven't checked that website I suggest you do amazing prices.

If you get the red ones. Sometimes you have to scrape the paint off the spring hooks to get them into the shoes.

Re: anatomy of the clutch..

First time I shaved the red paint off the clutch worked good but the 2nd time I stripped the paint I went a little ok the extreme side and the spring just snapped where I ground the paint off. Be carefull and done do what I did hehe

Vice grips. If you lay the clutch side by side and put the spring on the 2 clutches in a folded configuration then unfold it with some strength its alot easier.
