And I thought the XB was large...

All the hex screws on my 5ive are metric. In fact, the little allen wrench kit that Redcat provides works fine with all screws on the 5ive.

I like that pipe a lot!!! I need it now
Dude, this pipe is LOUD. At least compared to my XB's "tuned pipe" and my KDX200 dirt bike. I have to find an open lot or field with no snow to be able to run this thing without pissing off the neighbors... although I don't know why they'd care as people hunt in the back forest. You can hear gun fire all the time...

One other thing, the quality of parts used between the 5ive and the XB is night and day. I'm talking about bearings, screws, nuts, turnbuckles, and even the plastic used in control arms, frame, bumpers, etc. Do those improvements alone make it worth a $1000 bucks more than what you could buy a new XB for? I don't know... jury is still out on that one. Interesting but useless bit of trivia; the Losi 5ive is made in Taiwan. Taiwan used to get a lot of heat in the 80's and early 90's, but their QC and manufacturing techniques now rival Japan and the good ole' US of A. The Chinese can offer a good product at a low price like the Redcats, but there's still a lot of room for improvement. They could learn a thing or two from their Taiwanese counterparts.

Anyway, if you want something MASSIVE that would scare the crap out of the neighbors and their dogs, then the Losi is the thing to get. It becomes even scarier once you ditch the stock exhaust can and slap something on like the Predator pipe you see in my pics. The stock engine in the Losi is a 26cc CY. With the Predator, it surpasses the 30cc HY in the XB and that's no small feat; the Losi tips the scale at around 35-37 pounds wet.

I started looking around for pre-built suspension limiters or droop stops for the 5ive-T. The closest thing I could find was for the Baja. Since I couldn't find anything for the 5ive, I figured I'll just fab my own. Total cost was about 9 or 10 dollars and an hour of my time. If you want to do something similar, you'll need a few feet of 3/16" steel braid cable, 4 packs of 3/16" cable stops or collets, 4 1" key chain rings, a good pair of cutters and a bench vise.

Why would anyone want to do this? Well, I preset my droop using the grub screws but then discovered that they were slowly chewing away at the aluminum chassis. I also wanted something to prevent full suspension travel when airborne thus eliminating strain on the shocks. So I basically stole someone else's idea and this is what I came up with.

Another video. This was earlier today at my kid's school. The Predator V2.5 pipe seems to make decent power with the Losi's 26cc engine. Feels much faster than the Redcat.

Like that!

I've been talking to one of the guys at Edwards AFB who is running a 5ive with a Full Race ported OBR 30.5. After I get the Pro Port 30.5 OBR in the DR we'll get together and run on the old BMX track on the base. Should be fun. Ain't going to be betting any money though! :)
