After about a year leaving the MT5 in the basement, I took it out for a spin today. Well, only about a minute, the spur gear (FG 6052) came off. No problem, I put it back to the metal gear carrier, but can't figure out how or what is supposed to hold it there on the carrier. The gear carrier goes through the 4 plastic dampeners in the spur gear, but other than that, what is it to hold the gear on the carrier? Whatever it is, probably came off with the spur gear when I drove the truck.

Can someone shed some light? One of the 4 dampeners also disappeared, so I need to order the set. I just need to know what else I need to order and I'll just order at the same time.

Thanks in advance.

hiya mate, its a C-Clip that holds it on
FG Parts numbers:

C-Clip: 6732/7
Dampers (set of 4): 6051

im pretty sure these are what you mean, but hopefully someone else will confirm on here :)

Also to be honest dude, get yourself an alloy spur carrier (about £15) will prevent any slipping in the future :)

Oh, I do have the alloy spur gear carrier. It was the plastic spur gear that came out of the alloy spur gear carrier. Do I still need that clip 6732/7 then?

Thanks for the help.

Turn your gear around. make sure you put a washer on the shafts before you to your gears on.

killermolly,

Mine looks different than yours. I took some pics for reference. Do you think the clip is needed then? I can't even remember if there was a clip there previously, been a year since I looked at it before taking it out for a spin.

it's the same thing.

just take the alloy spur gear carrier off. turn it around so the 4 plastic dampeners face the motor/engine but put a washer first, and turn the other gear also

{motor side} 1. flat washer 2. spur gear 3. alloy spur gear carrier {wheel side}

Washer part number

killermolly,

I know what you mean now, by flipping it around, the set screws will keep the carrier and the spur gear in place. I opened it up and didn't see the washer currently in there. Do you or anyone happen to know the part number for that washer? Without that washer, the plastic gear and the bearing won't be friendly to each other.

Thanks so much to everyone for the help.

Can someone please assist with locating the correct washer for the alloy spur gear carrier? Thanks in advance.

I've just tried it out again and if I flip out the carrier like the way killermolly describes, the shaft is not long enough for the hex screws to hold on. I guess the longer shaft is needed for the upgraded alloy spur gear carrier?

OK .....

Drill the 4 holes out that you see on the inside of the spur grear, then attach to alloy carrrier and put a cable tie through 2 holes and another through the other 2 holes securing it to the carrier...job done...

or order a bag of c clips. I always put a dab of shoe goo over c clips. it keeps them in place better and even if they come loose, they tend to stick to whatever they were meant to hold on so you don't lose them
