I have an FG MT with all of the Elson alloy upgrades. I’m always having problems with my axle cups braking after few hours of running. I even tried a set of the CV style. My truck weighs around 40 pounds with the alumin wheels. I have 26cc motor. I’m puzzled and the hobby shops don’t seem to know. I thought maybe ride height or bad parts. Does anybody have any ideas on how to fix this problem???? It looks as if my axles are not long enough and there apply a lot of pressure on the outer cups. Help! I’m starting to lose interest in my money pit.:o

Where are they breaking at on the axle? Is the cup itself breaking off? I've snapped half a dozen dogbones, but never a cup.

You might try this: http://www.davesmotors.com/store/product2422.html (if you feel like dropping more money into the pit). I had to go to this because I snapped so many freakin dogbones.

ball drives are the best way to go , i broke a outdrive cup a few weeks ago going in a straight line on an oval . id check to make sure your dog bone isnt smashing into the drive cups on full suspension down travel ...

Make sure the shafts have room to move freely in the cup, but not to the pint that thy almost come out. Use Elcon conical springs grease them and use a boot. Or just get the ball drive it is the best.

One more thought, I noticed this, at least on a Firehammer MT, is a bump stop on the upper suspension arms, read through this thread:

This *might* help a bit with the problem.

I have broken a few inner cups split em rite opem. lol
Mine is all aluminum toom it makes them a bit heavier. I am usning a ball drive set now, but the boots get ripped in the gravel, and they limit rear wheel suspention travel, but I have not yet broken one. The ball drives are indestructible.

Clubin- what kind of grease do you use in your ball drives? Just wondering.

When they snap are you on the trottle? The times I have snapped a cup I unfortunately have been on the gas and the tires bite and snap! It is the weakest point of the rear drivetrain. If your stops are not set and the shaft is allowed to reach the top of the cup the same thing can happen but still it seems you will need to be on the gas for it to snap.

I snapped a ball drive cup coming off a jump under throttle, should have backed off but in the heat of the moment....:D
