Hey all!

Well I have decided to start building a Baja from scratch, no kit to start. I believe a good place to start would be with a motor. Unless someone knows of a better one I am planning to get HPI's FUELIE 26S ENGINE and their upgrade pipe. I am also looking at the Dominator from Daves Motors. http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/c.885035/n.1/it.A/id.5995/.f Does anyone know of a performance diference between the two? Thanks!

that's the pipe i run on one of my bajas all around better performance then the hpi pipe. i love it......you need to join hpibajaforum there's a crap load of info on everything related to bajas

Hey Guys!

Thanks for the info...

GreenLep,

I hear ya. I am planning to make this a long project. The goal is to make it very functional. Don't get me wrong I like bling as much as the next guy but I am planning to use lots of carbon fiber on this. I have found that it gives great rigidity and still allows for some flex during hard hits etc and cost less than aluminum parts. $100 here $200 there can be easier on the pocket book......

Are you going to be a basher or racer? What sort of surface will you be mostly running on? This will help us make better recommendations.

I love CF and have some and will be adding more to mine. But I race if you are a hard core basher might not be the best way to go.

Hey!

I will probably be a basher mostly. But I do like the power. I have an 8kv motor in my 18T. Its rediculas.. :D As for the surface. Ummm, that is going to vary depending on where I take it. At home I will probably be running up and down the road. When I am camping or whatever it could be rocky or woodland. I am thinking 45mph would be a nice top end. Plenty fast on road and off..... I don't want to get board with it. Did I just say that?

Should not have a problem getting 45 out of a stock 26 with a good pipe if you do not load it down with alloy and make it heavy. The dominator is a good pipe but is not well protected. I have the CPI which is well protected Being the type of driving you will be doing I would not do a lot of CF. All so I think you would be better to start out with a SS kit or at least a use one. Piece one together can get expensive quick.

I hear ya! I have already priced out the Proline CF parts and those alone are $1k. I will keep my eyes open... For the pipes I am looking at Jet-Pro V3 Version 3 Pipe and the Victory RC Tuned Pipe.

I might get the ProLind CF chassis but as far as the other CF stuff there are others that make CF parts that are proven for a lot less. All so check out the HPI heavy duty gears and the Skunkworks Titanium Layshaft (gear shart). I have them and this will take off all most 1/4 pound. Then if you run a LIFE battery more weight reduction but I have not doen this yet.

I ran my Baja today for the first time with the CPI pipe and all I can say is WOW!!!!!! They all so have a big bore model that is made for bigger displacement engines which I am looking into as I am in the process of building 3 new engines two with bigger displacement.
Check out this post I just posted on this pipe with pictures.
