Hi guys, newbie alert!

Just moved over to Bajas from 1/10th scale electric. Ultimately I want to get an SS, but for now I have a clone to play around with. I'll make my mistake on that before building up a nice SS.

One thing I've noticed with the clone, apart from the lower quality finish all around, is that the rims seem to be deformed. Obviously it has sat in the box and the weight over time put the rims out of true. Three of the wobble badly when I spin them.

I've seen a bit of that with the 1/10s but at that scale it doesn't really seem to affect them. But at this scale I'm wondering if it's much more of a problem?

So should I buy new rims? Or does it really matter for the bashing I'm going to do with this clone?

Thanks in advance.

Its the tire foams from being stored. It will correct itself after a bit of driving. Always keep the buggy off the ground when stored.
If you do not have metal rings in the inside of the rear rims I would make some and install them. You can see it in the KM Baja threads.

Well, I thought that too. So I took the tire off one rim, put the rim on the chassis and spun it and it's dinfinitely the rim that's warped. Viewed from above it deviates about 1/4 of an inch from true.

The rims do have the metal collar, put not the extra ribbing of the later HPI ones. Will the warp spin out with some running?

Sucks. Must be a defect? If they are warped they will always be warped. 1/4" is huge.
Any chance you can get a vid or photo of it?

Yup, those are crap. Must have pulled them out hot and warped them.
You could try to send the link to your seller and see if they send you a new pair, but doubt it. Its the chance you take for the savings. Good thing is the tires are ok so buy yourself another set of rims and a spare set of rear tires. The stock tires on both models suck unless you keep it on grass.

Thanks, mate.

The seller has actually offered to replace the whole car, as long as it hasn't been run, which hasn't. And they even say they will give a full refund if I prefer that. They don't carry spares, so they can't just replace the rims.

I'm wondering if I should just thank them very much and buy an HPI set?

The thing is, what are the clone rims actually worth? I'll ask how soon they can send a replacement, I think. But, really, if the rims are only good for grass, then it seems a bit pointless.
