Renbar has HPI wheels on his & it looks awesome :cool2: Not sure whether he got same all round tho?? Pretty sure he got narrower fronts on the front end.

Why don't you start a project build thread and get some pics posted as you progress. doesn't matter if it takes 12mths to complete.........ask everyone how long my builds go on for :lol:
 
your call on the choice mate but i prefer the look of thin fronts and wide rears its a 2wd car so it should have a beefy rear tyre like ive said before in another post ive made my front end wider by fitting 9mm fg squares before the adapters to bring the fronts out

with the wheel swap i have noticed much better grip all round better handling as well plus better tyre/wheel choice

That's a great Idea mate ! Il take some pics and post as I progress ! I think renbar put the skinnys up front & put extra squares on to widen it as it was a little narrow , it looks great now ! I hope you too don't mind me sorta copying your ideas lol I would love a try at 4wd like yours to see what it's like ! I bought an engine but I'm looking for another so haven't made up my mind on what will find its home in the bug , next engine must be a special one , so Probly it will be in the bug . Haven't made up my mind yet I'm open to what I see but I've been looking at obr & trying to get up the cash for a real special one , I would one of the reeds from obr but I would Definately need 4wd for that monster , but with all the other stuff I need for the bug project and trying to fund a mt for Xmas I don't know if il be able to fund the engine I want lol but I can hope :)
 
the other reason for the skinny fronts is simple there much cheaper lol and of course with over 6-7hp they don't spend much time on the ground but in the air due to it being a wheely monster
 
you have probaly seen this vid but what the hell everbody loves seeing a fg bug being bashed this was before i made the front wider,,if your going to widen your front you need the 65mm front axles as well as 2 9mm squares

Its not copying mate cos you will put your own twist on it anyway. Will be another welcome addition to the bug club :D

Even with 4wd I think the narrow fronts are the way to go. They look so much better IMO & I think Ren's is the perfect balance. Mine has the stock FG grass tyres on at the minute which are great on grass as it happens (:lol:) even more so with the 4wd but don't have the visual impact of the beadlocks.......

cheers dwarfy,,,,yeah mate don't be worried about thinking your copying no 2 cars are the same its just nice to see another bug being made its the best thing you can do with a marder based car it suits them so well

Cheers guys :) I will be taking a lot of ideas from both your bugs ! They are what made me want one :) my head will be twisted on painting up a nice shell & all the other bits I need to do , I really do like the hpi bead locks , I wouldn't like to try and keep up with you 2 tho with the oddie in renbars & the new Stevo in dwarfys lol would be great to see them two in a few straight lines with the 4wd & 2wd both with great engines in !
 
I have a 26.9 DDM ported head kit in the bug at the minute and that is not exactly slow so you can do a lot in respect of power for not much out lay. Even a well tuned stock 26cc with a decent pipe and good overall set up can compete as it makes very usable power so you don't need to go to the extreme with a fully tuned engine.
 
Hpi wheels

Quick question ! Does anyone know if the marder beetle shell will be ok with the hpi rims & wheels on ? Just I've seen a really beautiful one off shell ! I like the shells that dwarfy and renbar have on and that was my intensional but this shell is the dogs ***** lol
 
I take it your talking about the beetle with the arches and not the bugs like mine and dwarfys with them removed mine is a monster beetle pro shell and has no arches fitted,,i did try a arched shell with fg stadium wheels a while back it looked great but you couldnt use it as the wheels where touching the arches so i just cant see it fitting with hpi wheels
