Hi guys. I recently picked up a exceed barca. I have been looking for some info on upgrades for this buggie. But I am not finding much. I know there are some parts on nitrorcx but there support is not much. I would like to see if anyone on this forum has any experience whit this model of 1/5 scale.

I guess not to many have these buggies. Well here are few pic of mine before crash and after full over haul.

All back together and dirty from some bashing.

charlie, head over to www.redcatrampageforumn.com, the barca is almost identical to the redcat dunerunner, the chassis is shorter and some of the steering gear doent fit, but id say 85% of the parts for the dunerunner fit the barca...

the barca is identical to the dung runner...made by hsp for multiple distributers with different names...only difference in any parts is between the 2wd and 4wd versions..apparently fuel tanks are as rare as rocking horse poop but most parts are available for them

I have come to find that out. Barca comes with 2 servos as the Dr dose not. I guess I can turn it in to a Dr clone. Lol I have done some motor hop ups as intake Carb and v stack witb k&n next will be a tuned pipe. But first I will need to fix the striped gears I encountered. Thinking about a belt conversion.

Thanks for the info guys.

K&N air filters are great, provided you're either running in clean air, or you cover them with a good quality pre-filter to run in dirt.

DO NOT run in a dusty environment without taking precautions, as dust will get sucked into the engine, which could eventually create serious problems.

Last time I posted something to that effect Al I got shouted at and my hands slapped :scared:.....................

@dwarfy,

"K&N air filter DO NOT USE IN OFF ROAD UNLESS PROTECTED BY WELL OILED PRE-FILTER"

Thats bullshit!

I still stand by it though, yes they can be used to good effect if used properly but to the general basher (probably most of us who just get it out & run it) they can also be your worst nightmare.

That's it, and 'our Oracle' Mike1970 has said the same 'I run a K&N with well-oiled pre-filter' if I'm not mistaken.

Running without .... I don't know, but that there are a few horror stories when your boggo foam filter / Outerwears pre-filter sorts it out must indicate something.

Al.

charlie, just be sure to measure twice..cut once..when ordering dunerunner parts for the barca, there is a 40mm difference in wheelbase between the two, that means something has to be different up front, possibly the dogbone running from center to front diff....

I seen that on the spec sheets of both. But I wounded how that is when there both made by hsp and use the same chassis. I wish I know someone local to me so I could compare the two and take the best from both to make one tough buggie.

The only difference i could tell is by looking at where the side gaurds around the engine and gears end towards the front of the chassis, looking at both that way you can see there are more hole cutouts on the sides of the dunerunner showing than the barca, all else looks the same so my guess is it just has a shorter front end because all else looks identical, also...did the barca come with steel gears and aluminum gearplate? thats is a huge difference in reliabilty between those as well.....ahhh nevermind..just saw you mentioned the stripped gears

I have been on the hunt for gears and from the looks of things the steel stock gears for red cats and mcd will. They also have the four pin gears. But in order to use those I would have to upgrade all the shafts and clucth bell. So with being I am going to try the metal gears from red cat or mcd. Which ever one have the right ratio I am looking for.

Well after some time I have come to find out I had a blown head gasket. So while I had it apart I did some porting and lighten of the piston. Here some pics of my work. I am by far a pro at it. But I came OK for my first attempt.

absolutely...even with an outerwears they will suck in super fine bull dust...how'd i know...when i first got an fg i bought a new obr 28.5t rp 2 bolt...went running in gravel pit with a buddy...10mins later my new engine was toast...oiled k+n and outerwears = rubbish...to make them work(if you really want to run one) offroad is to shove a cut down oiled foam filter inside it (well oiled pre filter)

rely on just an outer wears at your peril...they will let in very fine dust!

Another source for parts

I too just getting into the 1/5 scale world. I did some research on finding parts for the Barca and the store RUFASTER (http://www.rufaster.com/ ) has the parts for the dunerunner, what I found is the last 5 numbers match up to the exceed Barca numbers (being I am ugrading to the Al. gearing and NitroRCX was out of 3 main parts).
