To help reduce some weight I am using a castle BEC with a 2200mAh lipo. I will be testing it out tomorrow.

Is anyone else running lipo RX batteries?

I ran a lipo rx pack on my Losi 8T...it was too much of a pain to disconnect after every use so it doesn't drain...I went back to NiMh

I always disconnect my packs at the end of a run Ni or Li, the big advantage is faster charge time and reduced weight...

Weight diff is not close to worth the hassle of pulling the four screws every session...Charge time is irrelevant with a 5K pack cause I'll never run 5 tanks in a day...

Lifepo4 works w/o a regulator because they are lower voltage. Also a lifepo4 3000 vs a nimh 3000 weighs around 5-6oz lighter and doesn't require the extra weight of a regulator. Its an easy way to shed over a quarter pound over a 3000nimh and like krash said if someone was unnessasarily running a 5000 that could be way more weight savings. All you have to do is save 5-6 oz three times and thats a pound! very easy to do.

When cycled/charged with a good charger a 3000mah minh is all I see nessessary because I can get 6 tanks out of it! I have a digital 5745 and a digital hitec for thr/br and each tank pulls just under 500mah.

The lipos though would allow you to run those newer high power high voltage servos for steering, throttle/brake if you don't use a regulator at all.

I've been running lipo and bec for a long time. if you connect the lipo to the on/off switch and the bec after the switch to the rx, you can turn off the bec so no power drain. then just top up as needed.

the good thing with running a lipo at 6v (I use 3s lipos) is you get a constant 6v from beggining to end of run. with nmh you get more power initially and the speed of the servos changes as the battery drains. I prefer the consistentcy myself

I should add I use a charger that uses the balance plug to charge, so I just leave the balance plug accessible and never have to remove my lipos when charging.... and before someone says it's not safe... I have been into lipos for a long long time, back when my quick e10 heli lipos were $800 (quick e10's don't even exist anymore ;) )

pipeous,

My thoughts exactly, I want the consistency in servo performance throughout my run.

Thanks for the BEC power tip, cheers...
