Hey guys,

basically i am hopefully getting another petrol car soon.

at the moment i have a brushless it has the runtime and is faster but you know....

so anyway my question is :

Which FG is better for bashing and abuse im looking at getting either

FG leopard or FG monster big monster with full side plates

ive had a FG marder and FG monster beetle (non pro) both were amazing cars but wouldnt be buying same one again.

FG leopard looks soo nice racey buggy but can it take the abuse off road and jumps?

or shall i just go for the

FG monster? the big beasty truck!

Well, the only thing about bashing is luck. Without luck they all stink. :clown:

They will all be ok to bash once upgraded. Without upgrades they all will break.:(

ya, these arewnt like nitros. you can run a revo stock fore ever. not large scale. its all about the up-grades. its not that they are cheaper or of less qulaity its just that they whey 3 times what a revo or savvy would way.

it really depends on how you use it.

for instance, if you were to buy the HPI Baja, and only ever used it like an RC car, it would likely do quite well without too much upgrades. but if you drive it like i do, Like im in it actually driving) you ll need to upgrade. lol

other brand milage will vary.

take it from me my friend if you are going bashing/or as i would say driving the s##t out of it get something cheap and standard, easier and cheaper to replace plastic parts than expensive alloy, alloy can bend too sometimes(well some of the bashing i have seen would do it)

the question you ask is a tough one really because at the end of the day nobody can tell you what to buy because its all a matter of personal taste and choice.

i would get something either really expensive if you want something relibale like a competition fg or else if your budget wont allow,(as you didnt specify how much you will spend) a standard fg and upgrade as you break it.

all standard machines are pretty much as relibale as each other.

look in a nutshell buy an fg beetle pro........... why? because i have one and they are the best .......... thats why .....hahaha

nah man im afraid its all down to what you like best im afraid,i mean when i am going to buy jeans i don't ask other people which pair will i get.....

no disrespect to your question either and not being smart.best o luck with choice.

but i also need to tell you that an fg will drive you crazy man unless you are willing to spend an additional 600euro to upgrade to the elcon drivetrain, otherwise you will be plagued by seperating gears, and bashing will aggeravate the problem even worse.

anybody that tells you differnt just hasnt ran there fg enough!

check out my thread beetle rebuild and you will see how much it cost me to date...........

now you could also choose a quick fix like welding the engine to chassis with strong glue or something but being honest you need to be able to strip the car down to repair parts from time to time and to go down that route it will just drive you insane.anyway you don't want to end up driving something botched and held together with athesive either...lol

best of luck.

or buy new and upgrade as i brake it

either way i cant wait!

if i could afford it i would go for the FG monster comp 4x4 its got all alloy FG tuned pipe disk brakes as standed! XD

HI RC Mad,

I used to have the FG Monster Truck and the only upgrade I had was the Ally Gear carrier for the Spur gear.

In 4 years of racing and bashing I spent the whole of about £30.00 and that was it, that includes doing a large motor bike jump over a lorry and missing the down ramp. I did not have any alloy upgrades or anything, it was standard other than the gear carrier.

The only mod I do to all 5ths is large penny washers above (or below) all ball joints so they do not pop apart.

If you look in the Gallery of RC Kingdom you will see mine in mid jump at our local race track.

I hoep this little bit helps.

The side plates do help to stiffen the chassis, but I also think FG uses them to help decorate the side of the truck. Nothing looks worse than a flat chassis pan with a 4 inch gap under the body. MCD does the same thing, but they use a piece of plastic lol. If you already had a Monster, then you know the handling characteristics of them. Bouncy and wheelie prone. The buggies handle a lot better and are faster out of the hole... Smaller tires = less rotating mass.
I have an M/T and if I had to do it over again, I would have bought the Leo or the Marder.

Trip..

man i don't believe that for a second...

£30 in four years bashing....sure the washers would have cost that alone, )

you must have takin it out for one day in four years. lol

man if anybody knows an fg its me i race it everyweekend and pennywashers arnt going to fix the problems.

mmmm i don't know now,im not being smart but everybody that owns an fg knows that the first thing to go is the rear weight bearing lower a-arms when the turnbuckles rip out from the weight.

and this is only the begining of parts giving up.

£30 would be gone in a day on some part.
so you mean to even say you never even replaced a servo in four years.

get real now man, just because you race these thing on a track or wherever doesn't mean people here are going to believe this!

more power to you if it is the case, you are one in a million so,cause out of the box these offroads don't take the abuse unless upgraded and just look at my thread fg beetle rebuild to show how much i have spent.

anybody that says differnt just isnt running them enough to know.

nothing personal

If I were looking for a pure basher,it would be something with larger tires with tall sidewalls to help the suspension absorb hard landings.I would definitely go 2 wheel drive as well because 4 wd adds weight, more moving parts to break and greater expense.

I would probably go FG Monster or Monster Beetle Pro if 2wd or Redcat Rampage if you really want 4wd.Just my opinon.

HI Dc2 Man,

I am not joking, andno I never replaced servos as I always use decent ones in first place. And before you say they come RTR, there is no such thing as FG RTR, the UL Importer put the radio in themselves.

I have currently cut mu collection down 2 4 FGs and have been running them for years.

The big trick to make sure they do NOT cost a fortune in repairs is simple 10 minutes (some time longer) checking the whole vehicle out at the end of the day.

As for using it just for a hour, you are joking when it would go out for a bash or thrash I would get through around a gallon (sometimes 2) in a weekend because I loved the Truck so much and it was so strong.

After running my Mardar and asking around I learnt how to set these up so they could take the poundings without costings a fortune.

Upper wishbones, not a problem, lower wishbones hold together fine and NEVER had a problem with wheel bearings as I keep them oiled with a good qualitity teflon oil after every use and they get soaked in oil after a wet run.

As for penny washers costing £30.00 - never, I go to my local nut and bolt shop. 100 for £5.00 and that is enough to do loads of 5ths, infact I have only every bought them once.

Now if you are saying I am a lucky person then thankyou, I do not want to annoy anyone, I just thought I would help by putting my personall experience forward. I understand everyone is different but for me perosnally I find FGs very strong and cheap to keep going (especially with the crashes I have).

Anyway off to another Race to see if I can keep the MCD together :helpsmilie:

hey plymoth i didnt mean any personal dig here at you.

i am just saying i find it hard to believe but not saying it is impossible.

when i got my fg i didnt take care of it at the start and was new to 1/5th scales,so common sinse would say that i was in for trouble, and combine that with not having the know how made it expensive for me.

but now on the other hand giving the experience i have with fg's if i bought a stock fg i would get great value from it.

i think mostly upgrading to alloy is all down to personal prefernce at the end of the day,i like the alloy and it sure builds a nice machine if even a little heavy.

best of luck with the racing plymoth.
