I'm looking for a top notch pull start for 1 or either of my cars, preferabley a sealed one as i have heared the reason they break is because dust and crap get in and around the cord, i saw a sealed blue one on a youtube video but could'nt read the name.
I have seen this problem with dust all too often before with pullstart nitros, the answer then was to get rid of said pullstart and use a starter box, problem solved.

Get your yourself a stock pull start and cover it with the outerwears pull start cover ?
and could get the outerwears engine cover too that should stop that un wanted dirt
from getting in ?

best ps i found after mine flaked out on 2nd tank of gas was one that has the collar around the pawl, since then no ps issues, now for keeping stuff out of it, LR had a good idea, he used foam covered over vents then covered with a ps cover. ya might have to lay a piece of window screen on first to prevent foam suckin into flywheel, but it seems a good idea to try out.

nice 1 mate

yeah that should sort it, i'le get the covers first and then try a few things like you said.
I wonder if i got the cover for the engine, would it cause the engine to heat up?

Just clean it regularly and you will be good to go. It's much better to have the crap stuck to the filter than in your engine!!!! Running on grass you will have to check it often to make sure it doesn't plug up FYI!

Its grass we're on mostly

my god thats a belter, how much is a normal pullstart and how often would you say you may have to replace them. cheers.:D

Stock pullstart is 30 from MMR. The TR is definatley more expensive but it solves alot of the issues with the stock versions. And will last much much longer. I have gone through 4-5 stock pullstarts in a day running on semi wet gravel. Grass is really bad for getting stuck everywhere on a car. If running mainly on grass you want all the outerwears filters. Or a mesh mod on the crankcase.

Good point

Yes if i'm going to go through these pullstarts, then i would be saving time and money by just paying that bit more and getting the race one strait away.
Sorry to keep qestioning but you seem quite knowlegable on these cars, is there anything else i should think about upgrading strait after damage, or even more to the point, anything i should upgrade to avoid damage.
thanks simon.

There is nothing wrong with the original Zenoah pull start if it's maintained every so oftern. I can't remember having an issue in 10 years. All this steel wire rope, ally bling casing and pawls are just another junk thing to buy.
Good maintenance costs next to nothing, some 2.8mm pull cord is a couple of quid per metre if that but I've never needed one.

thanks for the info.

i will keep that in mind and do my best to keep it clean.
Ive had years of experience with nitro pullstarts and their cords are a lot thinner, so it would have to be a pretty bad weakness for me to fail.
Thanks pal
