What are the best shocks to buy for the baja fg. Or what are the modifications best for stock shocks.
 
I have just upgraded mine to a set of alloy FG ones and also fitted an anti roll bar to the front and it now handles perfectly. its like a different car all together but not sure if thats the anti roll bar or the shocks..
 
The FG threaded shocks like you get on the marder race and leopard race are far better than the red clip in adjustment type. We always used to run 3000wt FG oil in the front and 2000wt in the back. We also played about with the pistons, they used to come with 2 x 2mm holes. We'd try drilling them out to 2.5mm which worked well or drilling more holes to give them 4 x 2mm holes which also works.
There is so much you can play around with, if you've got a second set of shocks it makes things so much easier to do back to back testing. but the best way for any testing is not to make too many changes at once because you'll loose track of what you've done and not know what makes it better or worse.
 
best shocks for a fg in my opinion is start with the alloy housing, use teflon coated shafts and piston, keep the eye on end of shaft plastic as this is a weak point and stops the swing arm from being damaged.

i got mine custom made from the australian fg importer, cost me over $300 but now with over 80 tanks on them with never a broken shaft, cap or anything else. the feel and response of them are fantastic and in my opinion smoother than the just as expensive elcon shocks but these are heaps stronger.

If you set your droop so that you need to compress the shock "just" enought to get it on the top mounting bolt then you will vastly reduce the chance of the rod end pulling off the end of the shock shaft.
 
If the FG threaded shocks are built correctly there you'll have no problem with them at all. As mentioned, the elcon shocks are good IF you can get them as the last 2 elcon cars have shocks that wouldn't fit the mader/baja.
 
As dwarfy said .balloon springs on the back work well you can tell the difference got them on my fg baja with fg alloy shocks balloon springs only £10 from rossmods
