Guys,

Man, these things get dirty!!. Whats the best way of cleaning?. I have a low pressure water sprayer, which I use, but it takes forever!!

Can a jet wash be used, with a de-greasing agent, if you are careful of the electrics/servo's ??

Regards.

I would recommend you take out the servo and electronics tray if you can. and Plug up the carb opening with a wine cork (Long story LOL).
The degreaser is fine to use, that is what i do and it works a treat.. When you are done, let it dry and if you have an air compressor, hose it down with air.. Also, spray WD40 all over it and whip off the excesses..

Good Luck, let us know how it turns out

Chris

+1 Zou, do you know where the name WD-40 came from? Well here goes,It is named after what it does,Water Displacement 40.The 40 was the 40th time it was perfected. There,a bit of trivia.
Oh, you can use TURPS or Turpentine substitute for the muck but as Zou said, elecs out filter covered, carb covered and brush on then blast with your compressor.Job done.
Or you can always do as I do...................don't clean them ;)

Yeah leave her dirty..

Nice trivia James. I have heard of that before by a friend a while back.. I heard it was also developed for rockets..
Great stuff to use.

BTW if you want to clean your electronics, get some denatured alcohol. It is good because it evaporates quickly and won't damage the electronics.. Don't soak it in though you should spray it.

Been using carb cleaner from the motor factors for the heavy soiled stuff and brush in with a paint brush then WD-40 and compressed air to dry of. Beware of using WD and compressed air near bearings as it washes them out.
Matt.

I remove my radio box and filter & plug up the carb with a bit of rag, then drown the ba???rd with water based degreaser (which contains sodium hydroxide & alkaline salts) then just hose it off.
I only use wd40,crc, etc.etc. on the ball joints coz I don't like squeeky bits!
I always repack my bearings with high temp bearing grease for full scale autos,,, makes em waterproof,,,last forever,,,grease don't wash out,,,I get bored,,,need stuff to do,,,baja makes me happy,,,blah blah blah!

iv,e been using a high pressure air line , then decorators wipes from wickes d.i.y look a bit like baby wipes but solvent based. they bring it up like new.

Im glad somebody raised this.

What I have been doing up until now is not removing radio tray, drown the back end in WD40, use low pressure hose to wash back end and under radio tray being careful not to get the servo's or receiver wet.

Then I let it dry before running. I don't go over it again with WD40, should I be doing this?

hmmmmm you seem to be working back to front with your cleaning:no:

WD is a water dispersion liquid and light lube.

it would be i think better to use a water based degreaser or gunk first

(out of a spray bottle)

then lightly wash off with water :clown:and dry... i use an air line:)

and a small paint brush maybe 12mm wide to get at difficult bits

then use wd 40 or simular and wipe off any excess

I have a little steam blaster. I bought it for detailing cars, but does a lot of stuff. When somethings dirty, spray cleaner then hit it with the blaster and it cleans it out, then the air. It's it's a good mud session then hit it in the yard with the hose first. wd40?... liquid wrench is a much better spray to use. it's actually a lubricant and prevents rust. wd40 is for getting tar out of automotive carpets ;) ... when they used propane as a carrier it was good for gum too

I let mine dry off, drop them on the floor from waist high and get the worst off with a toothbrush...only get a good clean when I have to take parts off to inspect/service or repair..only time they get a real good clean is periodic total strip downs:blush:
