My truck had a problem. The 4 screws holding the ring gear on were loose and it chipped a tooth. What is the best way to remove the diff? don't want to do it the old fashion way of just taking screws out untill it falls out.:helpsmilie:

On a standard truck you still really need to dismantle a lot of the back end, roll cage off, shock mount off, support brace off, undo the diff mounts and lift the back end out.

I agree with Ducky. There's no way around taking the tail end of the truck apart. What I've found was easiest was to remove the rear upper arm inner pins leaving the entire suspension still attached for the most part. Remove the shocks at the top bolt and the rollbar screws straight above the gas tank. Then you'll have to just take out the few screws holding in the rear diff mounts. Wiggle it out a bit. Shouldn't take more than a few minutes to remove.

I find short cuts tend to take longer. I use the Alloy dif riser and the arms are screwed to that and not through the chassis, just the riser is screwed to the chassis, so 5 screws and the whole back end comes off.

you can get away with only removing one side of the bulkhead, upper arm and stuff and sliding it out

Since you had to tear the rear apart did you fit it with the silicone mod before reassembly?

No I did not even think about it. I guess I should have done that but I mostly run on grass. I think the reason this gear chipped a tooth is the gear was very loose on the diff. I guess FG does not use loctite when they assemble these trucks.

The dif gear and layshaft gear on my semi need replacing. motor mounts came loose and shifted. I have many teeth that look like waves now and it's noisy. still works but noisy.

I just polished the dif case on mine as it was in an offroad before and got chewed up by rocks. BTB's mod is a great idea. If I was running off road I would be doing it. Running on road with dif risers, it would take a pretty big rock to get stuck in mine now
