How's well aligned is the motor?
How's the layshaft gears - too tight?
There's always a bit of room between the two to 'play around' with, but I admit, that looks like one hell of a gap!!

also Al just looking i can't see how u make any adjustments as everything is bolted in the right holes and the way the layshaft is fitted and bell shaft is fitted there is no adjustment that can be madelayshaft is not tight at all and with standard ratio's it fits perfect ..
what was the total count of your original gears???
FG adds up to 64 but some other makes add up to different totals?
as the gear carrier has the bearings mounted for both the layshaft and the pinion the engine cant really be moved any closer to the spur...only if it is made up of 2 seperate pieces
I thought that might be the case.....it will probably be cheaper for you to buy an FG gear plate and engine mounts rather than buy another set...or hopefully he might change them for you for postage costs??

good news he has got back to me and was very nice to deal with and will be sending me 23T on Monday
if anyone else is interested i gonna ask him about a group who's in ? this could cut cost if we have the number

Are you sure that 23 / 44 isn't overgeared - poor acceleration, high top speed?
Do you need to drop the 23 and increase the spur?
20 to 23 is quite a step.

well with a lower pinion and high spur the car would just strip the grub screws on the layshaft pinion so went for this ratio to try out going for test run on Sunday .. will report back
