Nope no popsicle died in the "black out" weve had to go for a week or so several years ago during an ice storm. The latest was when a tree came down and took the poll out in front of my house. Were the end of the line so the power company doesn't care, that was 30 something hrs. Luckily for me the house is heated with wood, so don't really need power, it gets hot as heck in the basement with out the blower to circulate air. But the house doesn't get cold by any means.

I got a Honda generator in the shed ,luckily .I haven't had to use it!...

I have a mosa generator with a yanmar diesel. Practically stole it. Some guy brought it in years ago, said it wouldnt start and he used starting fluid in it. Cardinal no no on yanmar. Had about 90psi compression (should have close to 400 psi) called the guy and told him what was wrong with it, gave him a quote for tear down. He didnt like the quote, as you have to remove the gen end to access the cover plate to remove the piston and rod. So I offered to pay what he paid for it, pluse the shop bill. So all total I got it for $145.00, put $100.00 worth of parts into it. Been a dream ever since. It had 16 hrs on it when i got it lol.
