I should know better but this has got me beat! I'm frying spur gears on my 'T' all the time.
I went out on saturday and after three not very long laps I blew the teeth off the spur.So on went another BNIP one and after two laps that disintergrated:mad: .
The pinion gets REALLY hot and is contributing to melt down.
Any ideas chaps? Spec a follows.
29cc BB head
Vertigo vented bell.
standard pinion
Integy alloy three leg bell housing.
Cheers
J;)

Did this start all of a sudden or did you changes something and it started right after? Check the clutch shoes, clutch spring and bearings in the CB holder.

i had the same problem, its caused by mesh if there is a small tight spot as it spins this can shred the teeth, is the pinion gear spining withoout a wobble? and how hard is the spur gear to get off the layshaft mine was hard to get off it should be easy, but if it is melting thru, heat build up maybe its time for a robinson steel spur gear set up .
