I wish there were some of you living close by so I could have some racing fun. Everyone around here is pretty much 8th scale nitro or electric. 2 of my closest friends gave up the hobby totally. I was recently going to give up my ramp for financial reasons and now I may just trade it for some thing 8th scale brush less. Running solo is fine for a year but then you see everyone else hittin the local 8th scale track and all I can do is go watch. Does any one know what I mean?

I know exactly what you mean. There are a couple people around me that run large scales, but getting together is tough with family life. Friends would rather sit in front of the TV watching sports on the weekends or just don't have the funds to buy one (or two or three).


I know if I get rid of my large scales, I'll still be coming to these forums and I will want one all over again. So I'm keeping mine even though I don't get to run all that often. When I do it's a blast.


I have a Losi Aftershock brushless, Duratrax DX450 motorcycle and a mini e-revo brushless. Great for out front of the house, but it doesn't compare to the large scale gas.


And going to watch at the track is disappointing, but I figure racing is going to cost me much more than what I already spend.
 
I Race 1/8th scale nitro every other weekend. The most expensive part for me is the motors. I bought three MBX5T prospec truggies for less than $450 dollars with tons of parts. That $450 for everything but the radio and engine. Out of that I have two identical truggies, one I race, one back up(like new never been out of the case) and one for parts.


I run a spectrum radio and rx and Novarossi +4 .21 which were another $450.


I have run 8 races(32 if you count all heats) on my set up and have not broken one part, blown up one motor or fried any electronics. All it has cost me is 2 gallons of 30%, a gallon of simple green for clean up and entry fees to some fun races. The initial cost is a little pricey but being one of the drivers up in the stand is way better than being a spectator. I still enjoy my 1/5th scales but the rush of actually being able to compete against others on a regular basis is what puts my 1/8th scale first and foremost. If I were out of money and needed to sell anything my 1/5ths would be the first to go, especially if I needed something for my 1/8th scales. My dune runner does not even have two tanks through it and it has broken 3 times. It is currently broken and has been shelved for a while.

I am biased to truggy. bigger than a buggy and handle much better. Not a big fan of the savage or the revo myself. They are considered toy class:(. It is nice to be able to find parts as everyone carries traxxas and hpi but at the same time they get spanked on the track because they are monster trucks and handle like them. Just my 2 cents but would hate for you to go to the track and try and compete with the truggy class(monster truck class is gone)as you would get eaten alive and that becomes very frustrating after a while. Man I wish I lived closer to you I would let you take mx MBX5T for a spin on a track, I think you would be beside yourself, then to go brushless and LIPO man you own the world. All you need to do then is learn how to harness the beast:D

I started building 1/8 brushless when Novak was basically the only option for a large can 1/8 motor. And that was before they had reverse rotation ESCs so you had to flip the center diff around! Needless to say Novak never cut it and probably never will for 1/8 conversions. I went with long can low kv 540s and the mamba max like everyone else but ultimatly waited for the castle and tekin 1/8 systems to come out. In the meantime Nitro was king. And I loved my nitros. The monster max changed all that for me. I sold ALL my nitro stuff at a huge loss cuz nitro resale SUCKS! Electric 1/8 is cheaper. If you buy amix of used/new your looking at $500-600 RTR 2.4gig with enough batteries to run 30-45 minutes! And then when you go to sell it you lose 100-150 if that! Nitro depreciates way more! Add to that the cost of driving and the cost of maintenance is next to nothing for electrics. They are ready to go at the flip of a switch and they are so quiet you can throw a $20 LED kit on and drive up and down the street at midnight. They jump like a nitro too 35+ feet long off of some dumb plastic skateboard ramps. Anyone seen the video of one jumping over a house, bus, or the 137.3' record. 1/8 is awesome! Im alone here as well w/my RC obsession. I don't know one person around here w/a gasser, my rc track is weak, and my friends who have RC cars drive them about once every 3 months! I gotta get on them to get them to go in the summer! They usually tell me they don't like driving w/me cuz all my cars are better than theirs. Thats not what the hobby is about. Its about having fun! Yeah Im bored too with lots of time to type.
 
dude, way bored here... I don't think there's another 5th scale around this area. iv'e got 2 e-maxx's, a xtm 1/6th buggy and 2 rampages and NO ONE to run with. i'm going to power jam at largescalerc just so I can be around people like me and 100's of 5th scales. I understand.

Luckily I have a few guys I run with down here. Just wish we had a decent track to run on. Just got my Ofna JL 10 gt in and my Mamba Max Pro today. Gonna start running 1/10 on road during the weekdays and run the bigboys on the weekends and get em good and dirty.
 
I have a Mammoth ST Pro NIB that will arrive in the morning. I had a MMM 2650 that I bought in January. I called Castle and the tech said I have to use the 2200. I said damn I just spent the money on a 2650 and he asked me what shape it was in. A long story short.. Castle is sending me "free of charge" A 2200 motor. I used to have a Mammoth St nitro and that bad boy was a giant when it came to jumping and handling. Now I am trading my Rampage TT for a Savage x "to be converted" and some cash.
 
I agree having tried 2650 and 2200 M.Monsters in buggies and truggies: 2650 for buggies and 2200 for truggies. If you want to effeciently run a 2200 in a buggy with good performance you have to step up to 5s or 6s which adds too much weight. To run a 2650 effeciently for performance in a truggy you would run 4s with the M.Max and therfore have to run a tiny tiny pinion or smaller dia tires. Not to mention the 2200 has more TQ which is greatly needed w/giant truggy tires. I tried it so I agree w/castle 2650 buggies, 2200 truggies. If you want to go 55+ though 2200 and 6s in buggies and truggies is the way to go but it adds weight which hurts track performance. Id like to see that ST when youre done. Ive seen some nice BL conversions of those. Theyre pretty cool larger than 1/8 scale.
 
very similiar to my feeling. im from argentina and here this hobby is very sorry VERY EXPENSIVE. ie: tt5:700 shipping:300 taxes:500. so no many peopple touch rc cars/trucks here. i had a t-maxx, hpi savage xl, hpi baja, duratrax raze, and actually i only have my ramp and a ten-t from losi. for solo´s run the funnyest was the savage, thats a real all terrain, then my big love is the rampage. BUT im only almost all the time, im serching a motocross track for some jumps and funn, but that will be alone too.

I plan on going all brushless and hitting the local 1/8 track. Besides my neighborhood is growing and I am running out of space to run. They have bought up all of the empty lots in my videos. The park is just flat and grassy. The ramp is a true brute that needs a large run area to appreciate its size and performance. My truck is a well maintained and fine tuned work of art. Those v3's don't have a damn thing on it. Enjoy it Sprint77. I now own a Mammoth ST and a Savage X these will both have CC MMM 2200's on them. I will post threads.
