couldnt figure out why i had no brakes. founr two threaded holes in the brake mount. its the plastic moun that holds the bearing for the center diff pinion. I had to remove the air cleaner, carb, alum gear plate and the brake assy. Geez! I put a couple button heads with thread locker. Am I missing and easier way to adjust these two screws in the future. i tried an allen wrench. thanks in advance

Re: brake adjuster grub screws missing

That's the only way I have done it as I have lost those screws last year on one of mine. Had to remove everything for 2 grub screw

Not really the best design. I don't think they had adjustment in mind when it was designed. LOL

When you loose the screws it's tear down time....

Re: brake adjuster grub screws missing

If only that diff gear would have been off to one side more it would be a lot easier with a long Allen wrench

long t-handle hex wrench

There is no need to remove anything but the left hand chassis side plate. Remove this, get a long t-handle hex wrench, slide it aganst the large gear- you may have to sorta flex the end of the wrench with your finger or a screwdriver to get it into the grub screws. same method to replace missing grub screws- except you will have to put the screws on the end of the wrench one its close to the plate that holds the missing screws. no, its not e-z the first time- practice makes perfect. shure as he$% beats stripping down the car to resolve the problem. give it a try- works for me 100%.

left hand chassis side plate? radio box?

here is a photo.- the sunlit area shows the end of the allen wrench going into the upper screw- the allen wrench must be slid on the backside of the gear to get to both screws- no need to remove the radio box- just the long plastic piece that keeps dirt-mud out of the left side of the chassis.- left hand chassis side guard.

yea, check out the tubing on the break link- I have sorta mumbly pointer finger- the finger that controlls the throttle-brake- this is soft silicone fuel tubing for nitro cars- Useing the end point adjustment on the transmitter- I adjust it so that on any given surface i run on- low traction-high traction, when i apply full brakes- it almost- almost locks up the brakes- Heck, i have blue collar hands fingers- built to grab things- I have to type with 1 finger- right hand- but i am left handed--- go figure that one huh? lol.

That's a great tip!

Always do my best- lol. Also, as the breaks wear down these grub screws have to be cranked in so far into the plastic- It helps to go to the hardware store- Home depot comes to mind-- Buy longer screws- there will be more screw threads to grab the plastic. -

Those tiny set screws are the reason I'm not a fan of the aluminum bearing carrier. With the plastic version you don't have to worry about thread lock to keep them in place.
