brake problems on XT

Hey guys,


I bought the Phat Dad slanted adapter for the air filter upgrade.Before I bought it, I tried to toy with the brake linkage and throttle linkage in order to not buy the adapter. When I reversed the linkage, I smoked my brake pads. I've since got the new brake set, and installed it. My truck doesn't stop for sh!t. It'll roll,etc. I've tried MANY ways to adjust, with no luck. Is there anyone with brake experience that can advise???I'm not even sure I went back to factory settings. I will say that the instruction/owners manuals are very disappointing for the XT's. Any help is appreciated.

Did you adjust the set screws in gear plate?

I did. I turned them out some. the brake is stopping the gears,but the wheels continue to roll.

if it is stopping the gears, check the grub screws around the drive pinion. I had one that backed out and got all messed up.

The breaks pads goes around the drive pinion on the square part so if the pads are stopping and the drive pinion is still turning then the break pads has to be out of round allowing enough room for the drive pinion to turn with the pads stopped. Check to make sure that your break pad are install on the square of the drive pinion and is so make sure that the drive pinion will not turn while you are holding the break pads.

Check the brake hub. Make sure the set screws are tight.
