I installed the belt drive, new gear plate, pinion and brakes.

I did a small spring time test run. Everything seemed fine, butt....

I noticed a puff of smoke from the front, brakes were dragging.

First the darn set screws are a pain to get to, loosend those up.

Now it seems like the middle metal brake plate is stuck a little.

Which way is the easiest to get there?

#1 remove gear plate

or

#2 remove top plate and center pinion mount?

The Caldera- SC-10E is a 10th scale brushless 4WD

Anyone have any experience with carbon brake pates to replace the metal ones? Saw some on eBay tonight and I can't see where carbon plates would be an improvement.

I'm not using the set screws at all. Used washers on the pins instead. Works just fine. Figured if I need to dissemble everything to get to the set screws, adding another washer on the posts was easier.
