Anyone use any alternatives to crappy brass collets used on FG throttle / brake rods? What are used on other models?

There are steel ones mate.What do you need to alter them for?

Im just being a big girl and having a whinge mate!! Just been setting up my throttle & brake and they are a pain in the arse with the bloody grub screws rounding off! I changed the grub screws for M3x8 socket hd screws at one point but then thought against it in case something caught on them and jammed the throttle! I will just buy a bag of grub screws & change them all for new.

That's what 'gentle but firm' and a drop of threadlock are for.
Know where you're coming from - I'm blown them apart before !!

Patience mate - as you know.

Its the grub screws rounding off on me when I am unscrewing them (I have decent allen keys BTW :D). I did inherit most of these and they were already partially fecked so will change the grub screws out next time I do any work on it. Will be getting a Savox servo soon for throttle / brake so that will be the ideal time.

As far as threadlock goes, I adopted a new method for grub screws some years ago after problems with the layshaft gear being stuck fast and it seems to work well. I put the grub screws in and tighen fully then dribble some threadlock onto a 1.5mm allen key and smear it round the top of the grub screws where the threads mesh. It does enough to hold them in place whilst running but makes them easy to remove when the time comes.

Had the bug out on the street to set up the new engine and 1 of the collets came loose so Ive changed the grub screws for M3 socket heads. It a bigger sized allen key and seems to work a lot better........

I'd go for M5 if I were you mate !!!! :lol::w00t::cup-1::w00t::lol:

Looks like it should work - probably end up breaking the rod!!

They look big Al but they are only M3 same as the grub screws! They will do till i get some replacements!
