Hello folks
I've just had my new 'toys' delivered from Daves, three heads and a few bits and bobs.
I was looking on the technical thread on there site and it says' Repeat this process 3 or 4 times - 3 or 4 full "heat cycles". Does that mean I have to do that process and then the engines run in? Because that sounds a bit too little to me. Trip said in one of his posts that he ran his in over a gallon or so (don't quote me) I'm not saying Daves is wrong as they are a well established firm but anyone give me some advice as I'm about to do all three of my engines and don't want to mess up.
Cheers
J.

Hey vodoo..Yeah I know what DDM says and others as well...These are not like nitro
as you know...Mix your fuel 25:1..for the first 1/2 tank you run your car or truck don't
go over 1/2 throttle.....It is a good idea after 10 minutes of running ..you let the engine cool down and get cold..Retighten your head bolts check your exhaust bolts...
then you should be ok...after your first 1/2 tank of fuel you can let it rip...
You may get other comments on this as well....Slawhammer

Timmah posted a break in method that rocks and is fast. the oneill bros method is what I used to use but takes forever. I like the new methods out. it doesn't take long to get it tuned the new ways

the 1/2 tank of fuel ran tru under 1/2 throttle.. helps to seal the piston ring with cylinder
as to not have excessive bow by around the piston ring.. and to loose compression,,
I guess you could run full tilt from the start ..you would just have shorter engine life is all
Other's may share there opinion as well...Slawhammer

Well I done my MT on the DDM method but surley you cant thrash it from the start? although i done that when I first got the new ones(MT and Marder) that was 4-5 years ago and they have just lost compression in the last 2 weeks hence the new heads.

4-5 years? thats plenty long enough bud. im way bored by then. there is no real proof of anything that says break in should be more the a tank. doing 4-5 heat cycles simply sounds like a modified nitro break in guide. to break in a motor for 6 hours(1 gallon of fuel) is simply bazzar. here is a vid of me breaking in my O'bros ported 26.9. i leaned it out a hair at about 3/4 of a tank. you can feel when the motor starts to losen up. it will rev higher and come out of the whole faster. thats when you start to lean it out. maybe about a tank. but you'll never know when your pussy-foot'in it at half throttle for 3 tanks.

my last few zen motors don't really free up till around the 5 or 6 tank mark to me, they are not hitting full revs to then

I agree, even after swapping out a ring it takes time to loosen up.

If you go by ESP's tuning guide its ready for full use after the 1st tank.

I've done both, break in and non. Both motors are in great running order.

Cheers fellas
I took it out again yesterday and let rip! pretty impressed with the results although had a bit of a flat spot on acceleration but that will be cured a bit of a carb adjustment.I'll have to make time today forthe other two FG's but just been sooooo busy!.
I'll keep you posted and hopefully bring my cam-corder out to make a few vids.

i use the carb settings from the esp tunning guide for ported motors, 2 h 1.5 low, i didnt know it was the same untill yesterday, and ive been using 2 h and 1.5 low on ported motor breaking for a while

Well I ran the last of my three heads in yesterday on all different methods and the last one worked best.......FLOG IT!!!........Took it out with a friend, slight tune and thrashed the life out of it and it went great!
So in the future thats my method of running mills in.:D;)
