Ok since ive changed from a 14t to an 18t layshaft gear ive noticed that my clutch bell is getting more and more blue. I know this is caused by heat but should this be something I should worry about?

ive got a 8k spring in it but I think it maybe more the gear than the spring causing the heat. Also all of my running is done on off/on throttle as the tracks I use are very slippery and heaps of jumps.

my run times are pretty low, run it for about 20 mins then let it rest for 10 then back to running.

I don't want to go back to a 14t gear unless I have to as I get more usable power and heaps heaps heaps more top end with the 18t

I would go back to the 6k spring....you will find that will solve your problem...

concerned there might be a fair bit of bog if I go back. what would happen if I keep it as is?

The bog is all in the tune....if it keeps getting that hot you could end up cooking the bearings....or worse....melting the carrier.

I used the 8 grand spring in mine and it chewed the shoes too quick..

You could possibly reverse the shoes for more bite.....might help if you want to keep the 8k.

that's a big change in gearing on the layshaft. that is like changing the pinion... top speed must have increased dramatically doing that but low end... 15 or 16 is standard on the layshaft, I would go that way.. what pinion are you running?

stock gear was 14t and now im running an 18t.

I like the way it runs now, controllable off the line with massive top end, for a single speed anyway. but if im going to destroy the shoes or worse a bearing then something needs to change.

ill try the 6K spring and see how I go. or price up a vented clutch bell.
