I lost a screw that fell somewhere in my marder the other day, then forgot about it...well until today when i tried to start the marder, 1 yank of the pullstarter and i heard a clang near the flywheel!!,metal on metal sound, took of thr pullstart cover and a fin off the flywheel fell off, the screw had got jammed between one of the fins and the inside casing!

Well i was just wondering if this will have a knock on affect, is the balance of the wheel going to cause me any problems?,should i snap off the exact opposite fin to try and balance it out.?..thanks, man, im so stupid, i should have search for the misssing screw at the time!!!

1 ha, ive had 3 missing before today with no problems.
w h a t ! ! ! 3 missing ,with no problems, are you kidding me? don't you get any sort of mad vibration or anything, has it made any difference to the performance...wow!! well i haven't started it since it broke the fuger earlia on, i am going to put a new 4 bolt engine in on tuesday anyway, i just wanted to use this one last time before it goes into storage!!!

i will think about it but might just get a new one for this engine, they carnt be that expensive can they?

ive had one with half of the fins missing on both sides and that ran ok but i changed it after that run made one hell of a noise when it went bits everywhere

so you advise me to change it?

no just leave it its really light now youll get higher revs & your engine will perform like formula 1 car youll blow "litrally" everyone off the racetrack

common sense mate if it broke u fix it, if it aint broke fix it till it broke okay cleatus

I broke a fin not long ago as well, noticed a minimal vibration in the car (might have been my imagination to) anyways broke of another fin on purpose the exact opposite of the previously broken one. Works like a charm as to date :)

You can still use it but thru time the vib's will destroy the bushings.. Even if you don't see the vib's they are there.. Some of my other motors (Lawnmower & Weed eater) I'll file it smooth and then rebalance it. So you will have to take the oppsite side down some. But I will always balance them. Or just buy a new one...

ive run for a short time in past with a couple missing, while there is no vibrating it does cause damage to crank seals/beaerings, so I would repalce flywheel ASAP

WOW, THANX FG ONICS!!!, il definatly keep it on if it will be like a formula 1 car!!!!will it rev to over 20,000 revs ? actually i might break the rest of the fins off then ,not only will it be lighter, will balance it out ! lol( just kidding, cheers buddy) !but i still wont blow everyone off the track as ive never raced . Ok ,thanks guys,im grateful for the advice, well i think il swap the flywheel off the fg merc onroad as i don't use it at the moment.i need to buy a piston stopper and the flywheel extracter tool as i usually have a reason to mess with the engine, this time the flywheel.
Well the postman knocked on the door while i was half way through typing this, looks like theres no need to swap the flywheel , the oddified 26 red top has just been delivered...

ok,i heard you can use thin rope, ive seen someone make one using a sparkplug, but a sock lol

lol... you should make a vid on youtube showing how to change flywheel using the sock!

if your going to take off all the fins on one side of the flywheel to make it rev higher make sure you balance it, otherwise it can still damage the cranks seals/bearings.

i would sugegst purchsing a lightened flywheel which will come properly balanced.
