Today I broke my steel pinion gear on my FG (the one that sits across the big diff gear). Shouldn`t this last longer then 20 liter? I have noticed that I have had a small play between these two gears (I can move the diffgear a couple of millimetres up and down. Should it be like this or should there be no play between the gears? I have like this on my new gear aswell.......

hi there that sounds about right the steel gears should have a play in them because if you don't this will happen much quicker if the gears are to close togeather then thye will strip verey quick and other things can and will go wrong with the drive train
ps make sure you don't have to much play as this will also strip the tops of the gears i have about 1 1/2 mm play

Ok....thanks för your answer :) When you say that you have about 1-1/2 mm play how do you measure this? When you see my gear what do you think caused the failure?

i use 2 peices of normal writing paper to set my layshaft/diff gear up .
are u still running the standard plastic engine mounts?

Yep, I`m using the plastic engine mounts. I`m thinking of bying the alu ones but they area bit pricy

How do I adjust the gear play easiest? I have tried to loosen the four screws that holds the engine and then tried to push the engine backwards but the gearplay remains the same :(

How do you mean when you say that you use 2 pieces of normal writing paper to set the gear play?

I too have this problem. I found it while tearing down my fg stadium truck yesterday after the gear ring on the diff became very loose. the teeth aren't as bad as yours but going to replace while it is apart. I also need to know how to adjust this. Haven't found any adjustment for this.

The 4 screws holding the engine and the screw on top which screws into the top of the left engine mount. These 5 screws/bolts let you move the engine slightly.

This is why the holes are slotted.

I managed to move the engine backwars a few millimetres :cup-2: This lead to a decrease in the gap between the two gears. I still have a gap but it is much smaller then earlier.

I never use the paper method. After years of wrenching you get to feel the right spot.:p

Just move the gears with you fingers and make sure they still feel the same after tightening the screws/bolts. Also make sure the drivetrain still moves freely.

It takes a lot of experience to get it by feel. If you ar not god at it I suggest sticking with the paper method.

I use the same method to adjust the gear mesh. :phone:

Don't forget there are 6 bolts/screws to loosen to adjust the motor mounts.
The 1st is on the pull start through the side panel, the 2nd is through the opposite side through the side plate and holding the gear plate to the motor, and the other 4 are in the motor mounts. If the plastic mounts are stripped try using some longer ones. If they are backing out use some all purpose cement on the screw heard to the chassis to try holding them from vibrating. And lastly you can try super glue but, you will always need to use it after one use and there is no saying when it can no longer be backed out and will not bite anymore.
Another thing Ive been trying is to use 3M adhesive spray on the chassis and the bottom of the motor mounts to help keep them from sliding. Crap is real sticky...
